Are the Front Speaker Signal FULL Range??
Just finished installing my amp setup by just using the input from the front speakers. It deduces the sub signal from the front factory leads.
I am not sure if it is the fact that the rear speakers are not installed yet, or if I am missing the lowest frequencies.
Does the stock Nakamichi system place a "high-pass" crossover on the front speakers?
If so, this would not be good for a sub amp signal tap.
Who here knows?

My pioneer SC is full range for a fact-- BUT, your problem could be that the preamp voltage could be very weak, which would make the output seem weak -- I could see how that would make you think it's crossed over--
In all honesty I'm not sure-- but if you play test tones on the front speakers you should be able to tell -- it will be easier to use a test woofer though-- just connected to the leads at the amp in the trunk or wherever it is-- so you can actually watch the cone motion- or you can use an oscilliscope to test the signal output of test tones--
or maybe somebody will know the answer for sure-- that's the easy way

Thanks MJ. I know I can count your response here. I might just have to tap the OEM sub leads and connect it to my aftermarket input to see if it restores any bass in the 20-50 Hz range.

The answer is Yes. I rewire the amp to accept the OEM sub lead as the aftermarket sub output.
The lower level frequencies were restored.
The skin on my face was shaking as confirmation in the driver seat. I stepped out the car and felt the front of my jeans vibrating.
A success
Lookfor a thread soon about a 12" (non-shallow) free-air subwoofer in the stock SC sub location. *GASP*
