88supramki is right
each sub has its own requirements for space. you may blow the sub if box is too small or too big. if the box you have right now is not built to p1 specs you may not be getting the best quality bass from your sub or its full potential.

To expand on this subject, the space requirements are determined by the sub's Thiele-Small Parameters. Using these parameters and free modeling software like WinISD or Unibox, then you can determine the optimum box or a box that fits your frequency response requirements.
Not a true statement. The smaller the sealed box, the higher the mechanial power handling. That means it takes more power to reach max excursion. When pairing an amp to a sub (or even setting the gains), you have to look at both the thermal power handling (RMS) and max excursion (determined with complex math formulas or using the software above). Adire Audio gives a great example using their Brahma series subs - link.

it's true it requires more wattage on seald box ect... but if your box is too samall the air being produced from the sub can push out the sub beyond its limits when trying to hit the next freq ect.. sorry i don't really want to get all technical, all i am saying is to get full potetial get the right box for the right sub. seald, ported ect...
