This is NOT an alternative to the Vaistech units, since those don't work for most pre 2001 Lexus/toyota models. also, this is a "pure" auxillary input, it accepts line-level preamp inputs only, and doesnt control the aux. device. (aside from volume)
oh yea, i forgot to mention that this is something that WILL WORK on pre 01 Lexus'.
its made from off-the-shelf components and could realistically be made for under $50 each. (although my development cost for the first couple is a good bit over that)
depending on response/demand il prolly post a tutorial on making/installing one
to reiterate, im not really interested in selling these, id rather help out the Lexus community and show people how to make/install them. i MAY sell 1 or 2 since i have enough parts for them but any profit would barely begin to cover my R&D costs.

Checked out the youtube video there...
Pretty much it's the same thing I have set up except instead of having a silent cd, you added a switch to bypass the signal coming from the changer thus silencing it.
Nice setup.
I think i'm gonna stick with my current setup though, cause I didnt have to cut the factory harness at all and it costed me a grand total of...1 old headphone wire that i had laying around...so practically nothing.
Still an awesome mod.

No but say the word and I'll buy one off ebay. Two actually. Neither of the LS400's i got had cd changers.
*ebay update* well maybe not. LS400 headunits used to be alot cheaper. AGH!

You'll definitely need a headunit with changer inputs to get this mod going.
In fact you'd probably need to have a complete working changer for that matter.
The changer has to be activated to activate its inputs so it would probably have to be in place and active for this to work.
Other than that the only way an aux in would work would be tapping the cassette head outputs after the head.

Wouldn't my cassette player have to work for that to work?
Thats the problem. I'd be fine if my tape players(you know, adapters) worked but they don't. One works in freezing weather, and the other only works in hot weather. I hate pioneer.
I've bought about 6-7 radios(plus the two that were already in the cars). Either they don't work, or they're nakamichi's which don't fit.
Please say it isn't so!

ok, ive looked over the diagrams and the mod WILL NOT work unless u have a radio w/CD button and a (somewhat) working CD Changer. as long as the changer turns on it will work.
TJW, it SHOULD work. in fact, the wiring should be almost identical to what i did for my 99. pm me.
