Default Speaker Replacement and Upgrade for the LS400

I was on a quest to find some aftermarket speakers to replace my blown 4" Nakamichi Speakers. I did some research to find a bunch of 1-way mid/bass/woofer 4" speakers. I intended to replace only my mid/bass driver and not the tweeter. I compiled a list so others on the forum can use it. It is hardly an all encompassing list but I thought it might be a good starting point for people who want to replace/upgrade speakers. The criteria I used for the selection of the speakers are as follows.
1. They had to be 4 ohm speakers.
2. They had to have decent bass response ( -3 DB rating below 70hz or so)
3. They had to be one-way speakers (No two way or three way coaxial speakers because I didnt want to replace the tweeters. The Ls400 system already has a crossover and I didnt want to introduce another crossover into the circuitry).

I came up with a list of 4 inch, 4.5 inch, 5.5 inch, 6 inch and 1 8-inch speaker all which fit the above criteria. I did NOT verify fitment of the speakers but merely picked them from their specs.

To find a few suitable speakers, I used madisound (They are a huge distributor of DIY speaker components). I am not affiliated with them in anyway.
Here is the list..

4 Inch (These should fit without any modifications but please verify yourself if the mounting depth is appropriate)

4.5 inch (These apparently have a 4" mounting hole circle) and these are what I purchased. Will send out an update once I have them mounted.

5.5 Inch (Modifications required in your speaker box)

6.5 inch (Major Modifications required in your speaker box or a custom baffle is required)

8 Inch (Probably have to create a custom baffle)

Hope this list helps other folks in this forum.

The Boston Acoustics 4.5 have a mounting hole circle that is almost a perfect match to the stock nakamichis however they are far too deep to fit without spacers. They have a mounting depth of 2.5 inches which is about .7 of an inch too much i would say. I mounted them with spacers (from Homedepot) and they sounded great but the speaker touches the door panel. I dont like this so I am hunting for thinner speakers which fit better. Just as an FYI, the diameter mounting hole circle for the speakers in the front are 122 mm (measured using a ruler). and most 4 inch speakers have smaller mounting hole circles, so for an exact fit, I would recommend looking at 4.5 inch, 5 inch or even 5.25 inch speakers with the appropriate sized mounting hole circle. Remember, a mounting depth of around 40mm should be alright, maybe even a little bit more (I didnt measure this carefuly enough).
