you missed out on a deal, there was a pheonix gold for 59 bux and it sounded awesome in IB form. The xmax is 28mm so you will need the adapter in the picture above, otherwise, it'll hit the panel (I'm having that problem right now even with the adapter... excursion causing the 3rd brake light to hit the windows).
I would go with birch and find a speaker that only needs a small enclosure. Get a precut birch on amazon and put them together. It's more expensive than MDF from Home depot but it's a lot lighter.
You can't find birch on home depot I think. I built a box and attached it to the adapter into the stock location.
It's recommended at least 3/4 thick and some insulation to keep resonance at bay.

awsome setup quick question since you guys are more of an expert
I'm going to go with the 10' kicker unless a better sub is out in the market.
I have the ML package on a 3gs any difference between the non ML package
and amp, any suggestions on what type of amp I should push for this baby sub?
thanks guys

thanks for this! I plan on swapping my sub real soon. I thought this was great because since I bought the car I've wanted to change the sub but keep the same set up instead of using a box or some crazy fiberglass work. I've wanted to keep it simple. now I know what kind of subs I can use and what materials I need. thanks!

How to Modify the wiring to fit aftermarket?
I'm a newb at wiring, so I'm putting that out in the open, there's about 4 wires on the OEM sub,
and only two pins for my aftermarket sub (maybe a pos and neg)
anyone know which wires will have to be used and how?
