SC300 In dash dvd
Im thinking of upgrading to a indash dvd/cd player combo, just wondering what brand you guys would reccommend.
so this is what i have now :
(i know, its ugly.. thats the main reason why im changing it.. looks like no major company makes the plastic piece for the lexus sc models... so im stuck with a huge hole beneath my stereo)
so what do you guys think... pics would also be a great!
thanks in advance

I'm a personal fan of Eclipse units, like the AVN5434, AVN5495, the soon to be AVN6600. those are all good choices.
If you don't want navi and you like the double din units, go with the Kenwood DDX-8017 it's a great unit for those who just want everything but navi in one unit. *navi can be added on to this unit, but it's a separate unit that you have to purchase*
If you don't want the double din unit, there's always: Alpine IVA-D310, Alpine IVA-D100, Eclipse AVN7000, Eclipse AV3424...the list goes on.
I'm not a big fan of the new alpine double din...it just doesn't have anything that strikes me as impressive

here the start of my install, since the pic I have put in a some fiberglass to cover the bottom wires. Old school but I still get a few compliments.... and yes you will have to get a custom kit....

On the SC, the double din is a no-no because the location is kind of low. The best in-dash units right now in my opinion is Eclipse. They got Alpine beat this year because the units exterior looks nicer AND it has integrated navigation. I currently have the old flag-ship Alpine screen installed.
My favorite Eclipse unit at the moment is the AVN7000. It has all sortsa gadgets and it has a hard drive too! Im going to ditch my Alpine IVA-D900 for it sometime soon. Pics of the AVN7000:
The custom work required is cake. All it takes is just a small piece of wood with vinyl wrapped around it. Here is mine:
Single din for the 1st SC all the way

a no no? I would have said it's personal preference. I think it's just fine, plus it fills the hole up better than a standard double din unit. Plus...I can get to my A/C controls while having the unit on and watching a movie. I'm a fan of the zero interferance
it's not finished yet because this is just a loaner deck

r what you could do is something like what i'm gonna do, is get a pop out screen, run that into a headunit, and the right below that fun a 1/2 din dvd player. so no holes nad no worries about getting a dash kit made

yeah it's an Eclipse AVN2454 a few years old. I'm waiting for the AVN6600 to come out so I can swap this one out
I do agree with the quick roll of the eyes for the navi, but that shouldn't make the double din a "no no".
I'll say the same thing that I tell people who want to buy radar detectors. "You have to be smart enough to use the equipment to not get in trouble"
