well, I finally got off my butt and rationalized purchasing a set of Focal 165k2's last night. I'll be pushing 75 watts to each of em via my JL 300/4. I'm also thinking of upgrading my 6x9's in the back. Does anyone have any good suggestions for rear fill? (I don't need anything with good bass response, so anything that sounds great above 80-100 hz is what I'm looking for.) I currently have the Infinity 693.i's in the back, and I've been very disappointed by them.
P.S.- With the impending arrival of my Focal's I'll have a set of Infinity Kappa 50.2 cs available if anyone wants em cheap.

Which Lexus?
Sark - Which model do ya have? Sounds ( HA-HA!! ) like an IS3 with 6x9's. Any plans to compete? If so, don't do any rear fill as it drags the soundstage rearward. However, if it's for everyday listening, U might try the either the Diamond Audio M391i's or ( my favorite ), the Boston Acoustic Rally RM9's. The Boston's will play up to 220 Hz or so if U want the extra highs while the Diamonds sign off at 170 Hz. IMO, it's difficult to have an oval speaker like a 6x9 accurately reproduce a sound wave but things sound better than in years past.

It's actually not a Lexus yet. It's a Toyota Camry until my credit is squared away, so I'm a troll for the time being. I don't have any plans to compete with this car. Judging by your opinions on ovals, I assume you would suggest going with a good 6 1/2" coax instead? What coax speakers would you recommend?

Try These
Might want to demo these models. Diamond Audio M361i or Boston Acoustics RALLY RX67. The Boston's are a bit "warmer" than the Diamonds, IMO, but I'd be happy with either choice. Dyn Audio doesn't make co-axials that I'm aware of & Focal has those oddball sizes ( no 6.5" coax - just a 5 1/2" model ). Happy hunting!!

Instead of getting a 2 or 3 way coax, you might want to get components. Something like a 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 with a seperate tweeter would fit in the 6x9 space. Just make a plate out of wood and it will fit in the hole. Gene recommended some good speakers, and you made a good choice with Focal.

Excellent Idea!!
Sir - That's a terrific idea ( wish I'd thought of it!! ). A good component set will sound worlds better that a 2 or 3 way speaker & a baffle should be easy enough to make - just trace around the 6x9 mounting lip. Two thumbs up!!

so many choices. I think I'll try sticking my Infinitys in the back deck to see how I like the sound. Though a second set of the Focals does sound mighty tempting.
My girlfriend just called to tell me they arrived this afternoon, so they're going in tomorrow!
thanks for the help guys....

OH MY!!!
Well, they went in yesterday without a hitch. There was some question about them fitting, but they didn't have any problem. They just put the Kappa's I had to shame. It's not even a close comparison. I think I'm going to go with the Focal 6.5 coax for rear fill. I'm afraid another set of comps will be overkill on the highs for my personal taste.
