Talking EUREKA! SHAZAAM! KABOOM! iT WORKS

I just bought a 1992 Lexus sc400 and am rebuilding it. A major problem has been the Nakamichi sound system. The head unit is ok, but the amp was/is dead. I replaced it with one that I found at a salvage yard in Indiana. Next is the cd-changer. It just defied all attempts to fix it and for it to stay fixed.
I was reading through all of the forums here and read one that claimed that a trunk mounted cd-changer from a 1996 and earlier ES 300 was plug compatible and my Nak head unit would recognise it.
WELL! It is true. I just found one in a local mom and pop salvage yard in Ft. Worth. I went over there in the sc400 and plugged it in. It is plug compatible. Then I put a cd into the 6 place cartridge and put it in. Now back to the head unit and it showed an error. Phooey! Then I went back to the cartridge and discovered that I had put the cd in upside down. I fixed that and it WORKS!.
It sounds great. I now just have to decide how to mount it. But, I will get that done somehow. How it looks back in the trunk doesn't bother me at all.
So, you sc400 owners, the ES 300 (1996 and previous) trunk mounted cd-changer is plug compatible with the Nak head unit and it works!

Love might encompass a lot of things, but for now and for me, it is a trunk mounted cd-changer in my sc400

CompuMan,

Great info, but I think you have your models incorrect. The IS300 was never released until 1999. DO you mean a 1st gen GS300?

Default Whoops!

You are exactly right. What I got is a cd-changer from an ES300!

I originally posted this cd-changer as coming from an IS300. I meant that it is from an ES300

Hey Compuman, don't forget your love for the ClubLexus forums for suggesting the idea in the first place....

Default Installed

Here is a pic of the final Install of the IS300 cd-changer into my SC400:
As you can tell, I need to do some cleaning, but my mechanic fabricated a couple of brackets for the rear of the cd-changer and a rubber bushing and mounting plate for the front. We used the original side fabric to enclose the cd-changer. I need to get some more material to cover the rest. I expect to use velcro to attach the rest of the trunk material to the top of the cd-changer.
But, it works very well
