Default Help with CELL PHONE MUTE LINE in sc400

this is for a 92 sc400 nak. system

well this is about the 100th time ive repaired my amp. I permafixed that damn drain hose that kept falling out. Anyways, a capacitor and a resistor blew up on the amp, which resulted in the mute line activating for some reason. Now when i reconnect the tested and working amp, it still mutes, i remove hte orange connector and the stereo works perfectly.

I cant seem to find any blown fuses, where does the mute line have a fuse? is it inline somewhere? And where can it short? theres no water or corrosion under the back seat.

would it be ok to just tape it up and leave it unconnected?

Let me know what you guys think?

thanks

Ang

I assume you are talking about a mute wire for an aftermarket phone kit since the OEM phone system has a mute connection in the phone system wiring harness. As far as I know a phone kit's mute wire does not contain a fuse -- why would it since the mute wire grounds when a call is in progress -- it is not a "hot" wire. I suppose it is possible that the phone kits mute wire might be getting grounded at some other point between the amp and the phone kit -- maybe insulation has been broken at some point along the mute wire so that the wire core of the phone kit mute wire is grounding all the time. It is also possible that the phone kit itself has a problem and is always grounding the mute wire. Sure, there would be nothing wrong with disconnecting the mute wire and taping the connection.

If you still need to connect your phone kit's mute wire so that it mutes your radio when a call is in progress, find a mute point in the OEM phone harness instead of at the amp. In my 00 LS I found audio system mute points in a connector under the center console and in a connector in the trunk that was meant to plug into the optional Lexus phone transceiver. I suspect that your 92 does not have a mute point under the console since I could not find one under the console in the 90 LS I used to have.
