today i get in the car
throw in a brand new fresh from my CDR
and bam my tweeters sounded like garbage
had a tinny/rattling sound
like it was pushing bass
So i played with my RF Epx2 that just got installed last week
and couldnt fix the problem
I though perhaps my crossovers wherent working properly..
I dont know much about tuning/installing..
so i have an apointment tomorrow at a local car audio shop to troubleshoot my problem
HOPEFULLY they arent blown
ever since i installed my EPX2 i keep having problems
dont get me wrong the EPX2 is incredible unit
I bought mine off ebay and i think there might be something wrong with it
I pray that my system can be fixed
any suggestions/comments more then welcomed
thanks

It could simply be the home grown CD. Especially if you cut it from an MP3 with a sampling rate less than 128. Below 128 (I prefer 160) the CDR's music can sound really raspy.
Have you tried FM?
Have you tried other CDs?
Have you tried the CDR on another system?

well FM doesnt sound nearly as bad
you can tell a little
but nothing as bad as CD
I tried several cd and there is defintly something wrong
I really think its the EPX2 causing problems
hopefully i will find out tomorrow
and it wont be devastating
sounds like im getting too much bass upfront
and some is going to the tweets
thanks

Erick,
Keep us posted as to what the diagnosis is with your system. I'm awaiting the arrival of my Rf Sym & would like to be aware of any specifics or design flaws, although I have not had one person say anything negative about the unit.

X-Over Points
Erick - I know U're an experienced audiophile but where do ya have the tweets crossed over at? Kinda hard to diagnose w/o hearing it but if ya think it's got too much bass coming through, I'd check the crossover points. BTW - if ya want some reference numbers, I just posted my system tuning specs in Marken's post about the Symmetry questions. Good luck with the troubleshooting!

MY HP is set at 5222 right now
my LP is set to 90
i dont remember off hand what my BP is set
i dont have any rear fill
I brought it in to a shop today
they noticed i had the volume of the symmetry set to 40
and they said thats not good.. so they set it to 35
and told me to play with my volume on my HU
it did help a little bit.. but i still notice a problem
Also i have to bring it back in friday
they told me that my ADS crossovers where probably not wired properly
since the fade was doing some strange stuff
I guess we wait till friday to find out..
thanks

Erick,
De-install the EPX. Listen to the sound afterwords. Chances are that it's just a wrong connection. My guess is that your tweets were working properly BEFORE the EPX install. Get the EPX out ASAP. Do NOT power on again until all connections have been carefully checked at LEAST 3 times. If you have a wrong hookup (mid output to tweet) then you'll damage the tweet even further if you leave the EPX hooked up the way it is now. take the unit out. Then try again.

Worth a Try!
Erick - Even if U don't want to disconnect the Sym, at least double check the RCA's. It's EZ to do what Percy says ( mis-wire ) when U're running multiple amps - try it with 4 amps & U'll see what I mean! As long as I've been doing this audio stuff, I have my friend double check my hook-ups anyway & he's caught a few screw-ups before they could do any damage - like running an LP signal thru the tweets as P suggests. It's a common practice to keep the volume on the Symmetry around 33-35 because, for all the wonders that it can do, I've found that anything over 35 tends to amplify any system noise that's in there. Trust me - I've NEVER found a system that was truly noise-free ( unless the engine wasn't running ), especially the newer cars where there's so much electronics in place from the factory. They generate a small electrical field themselves that can be picked up by the higher end brands of speakers, especially those with x-overs ( been there; done that - recently! ). 'Course, I haven't had the pleasure of listening Percy's system yet but hope to sometime - if we can find a way to meet ( we're way far apart! ). I'll admit my system has a very faint amount of noise but I know where to keep the gains & tweaks to mask it, though that d*** RTA's a tough one to fool!! Let us know how things come out & best wishes!
