couple of "early" questions for ya,I know these will prob. be answered in the DIY but im looking to get a head start

from the pics i can see that the screen is not fully flushed with the dash. the screen looks like it pushed back a little - how many inches is it back?

How are you powering this thing, In your previous post you mentioned something about "ITPS" . Im not to familiar with that PowerSupply for carPC use. I was looking into the OPUS[click for more info] power supplies or the

Carnetix PS. The Carnetix is fairly new. But most people over at mp3car.com swear by the OPUS - the only downside is that this PS is about $200 bucks

Round 2 of questions will be about the PC case/parts you used, but thats for next time

check your PM
The screen is about 1/4" set back. This includes about 1/16" of felt padding. Since MDF is relatively soft, it's very hard to make it any thinner.

The OPUS is very expensive and big. The power supply I got it's 100W ($59 and plenty of juice) it's very small, snaps right on the motherboard. It's cableless and fanless. The ITPS is the "power sequencer". A vey small device (about 1/2" by 5") that controls the computer power on and off so that when the engine is turn off, it provides power to the computer for enough time (about 45 sec) to it can hybernate. After that, it cuts all power to it. When the engine is turn on again, the ITPS will send a command to the computer to turn on and come back from hybernation. So turning the computer on and off, it's completely transparent to the driver. I will install a "master" switch, though inside the glove box, so I can override the ITPS and avoid the vallet parking guy playing with the computer.

Let me know if you have more questions.

For the power supply you can also just use a regular 120v supply in the computer and plug it into a UPS backup supply then remove the 12v battery fro mthe UPS and connect the leads right to your car battery...dont forget a fuse, or circuit breaker.
This method works great on my battery and even on my friends honda CRX which has a tiny battery. can power it with no problems. And its great for the computer becasue its getting its power from a regulated a/c supply.

This way you can leave the computer in stand by mode and its ready to go when you need it , like AS SOON as i get in i need it on for my rear view camera system to back out.
