Default lexus radio cassette mechanism repair

yes the common problem is there are 2 small and 1 large rubber belts in the tape mechanism which last about 10 years so its time for new ones. i could send you the belts or a whole tape mechanism ready to drop in so the radio you can do it yourself. its not hard to get the radio out of the dash with the proper directions.then only 4 srews holding in the cassette mechanism assembly. the belts are special pioneer cassette belts and arnt available from an electronic supply. email me at egusman@woh.rr.com for further info.

How can you tell that the belts are dead? My stereo switches from cassette to FM on its own. It wont play the cassette at all. Please let me know how much you want for the belts.
Thanks

Bringing this thread back to life since I am starting to get the "ERR" message when I am trying to use the tape cassette player on my 1992 SC400 Nakamichi stereo.

Yeah, yeah, I know- no one listens to tapes anymore. You can't even get a cassette deck on many new cars. But I use mine to feed the audio from my satellite radio, or at least I did until I started getting the "ERR" message displayed. At that point, the audio goes out and I can't eject the tape, unless I keep fiddling with the eject button for several minutes. The CD and AM/FM continue to work fine.

This is with one of those $20 Sony cassette input adapters- there's not even any magnetic tape in there- it just feeds an audio signal from the output plug of your iPod, satellite PnP, etc. to the tape head.

Does anyone know if bad belts are causing it to act up? I'll give that "4 screws" repair a try if it's likely that it a belt replacement will fix the problem.

I've got the same question, as mine (92 SC400 w/pioneer premium sound) is doing the same thing, when I try to play an mp3 player through a tape adapter in the cassette player, it just makes some noise for a few seconds, then switches to FM by itself---

I tried a tape that plays in my G20's factory tape player to be sure--- and it does the same thing--

I emailed lexusaudio from the above post and he's answered, but I think he's still looking for the right parts....

I'll be sure and update this with whatever resolution/fix we can come up with.

I hope it is just the belts..... That just seems odd that it wont even play a tape adapter that has no actual tape in it....

Is it the same deal with the belts if my tape unit is "squeaking" when I insert a cassette (mostly for ipod use) and continues to squeak while the tape is inserted? I've tried different tapes and they all do it so I know it's not a bad tape. BTW, mine is a '94 SC400 with the Nakamichi system...... are there any sources on the west coast for repair if needed?...... thanks.
