New F-Sport Intake. What's the Charcoal Looking Filter?

Default New F-Sport Intake. What's the Charcoal Looking Filter?
Just got my new F-Sport intake and notice there is a charcoal filter looking thing in the top of the f sport box. This filter isn't in the stock box so why the f sport. Can anybody explain what this is and why I would need two filters? Seems like it adds the paper filter right back and causes restrictions.

I have fsport intake too. It was there when I opened the box. I guess you will get more clean and cold air as it goes to multiple layers of filters

I believe this is a carbon filter to absorb any volatile fumes from the engine. Not 100% sure, but I think that is how it was described here.
