Default Poor MPG on Lexus IS 250 - Fsport

Hi guys,

I am writing this thread all the way from Tehran, Iran. I thought I ask about my problem here since its the most active Lexus forum worldwide!

So I just got my 2015 IS 250 - F sport exactly a week ago. and have noticed that my car has severe bad MPG! so I got the car last Saturday with only 7 miles on it and a little more than 1/4 of filled tank. I drove 178 miles this week and already have filled the tanks once and now my gauge is almost where it was when I got the car. (that is almost a tank of fuel for only 170 miles!)

I have only been driving in the city and have spent at least 2 hours of engine just idling in traffic but still. on the trip computer of the car I have 13.84 MPG as average

(in the pic its a different number because my car uses metric system ie KM and Litres instead of Miles and Gallons).

Any idea what the problem could be? is it really like that?

Yes it is like that. You do realize that when the car is idling, the mileage is going to be 0 mpg. I live in Chicago and while there's no idling, there's a lot of stop and go traffic (which results in 14 mpg on my IS350 AWD).

Combined with the OP's extremely new car and low miles on the odo and cold temps. I'd say this is normal.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that. The mileage should go up after about 1000 miles lol.

sounds about right. city driving and idling in traffic for 2 hours will do that

I agree....City driving, excessive idling, plus a brand new engine will yield poor fuel consumption....

thanks. I was really worried. becuase before that car I had a 2.0 litre suzuki and its consumption was waaay lower than the IS. btw you all mentioned because of the new engine. you mean will it get better after a while the engine gains some mileage? because still the lexus europe sites say that the city consumption is about 10L/100km (23.5MPG) . mine is doing almost half of that :l

Your current mpg will probably improve by like 1 or 2 after you break in the engine. Still, the biggest problem is the route you are taking.

Don't bet on much improvement.

My IS350 has been getting between 13 and 14 mpg's on 50-50 highway/city driving since new. It now has 10k miles.

There's a large handful of people who have the same complaint.

Something is wrong, and it's not break-in, driving style or fuel quality, as I've been very cautious with same.

is350 Fsport RWD
80% City, 20% highway(some times even less).
I average about 13-13.5L/100km for each tank of gas.
Most of the time i drive in "normal mode", with Sport + mode sprinkled on the side =D (never Eco)

During rush hour, my drive to work (45 mins) my gauge is showing ~15L/100KM
TBH I don't think 13-13.5L/100km average per tank is unreasonable for a V6 300HP car.
I owned a g35, V6 298hp car prior, and it averaged about 14-15L/100km per tank.

If you're looking for a fuel efficient Lexus, you've bought the wrong car.
Should have bought the CT200H, or some form of their hybrid cars.

First week I drove it, I got it down to 9.9L/100km citiy, but that was with Eco mode + Snow mode (no it wasn't snowing yet) + suppeeerrr light on the gas. IT DROVE ME CRAZY! I didn't buy the Lexus to be gas efficient and let a 1999 civic pass me!

Now I say, **** it, at least normal mode, and I'll step on the gas as much as I want. Way more enjoyable drive when you stop caring about the MPG lol.

I say, enjoy your V6, don't worry too much about gas!

Hmm,i got the 250 F Sport and it works to get it under 12l/100km. Most of the Time i Drive in the City. Eco on. Right now i got 11,4l/100km that makes a range of 500-550Km with a filling.
I made now 1100km an the mpg is ok for that Engine imho.

I always get 23 to 26 MPG, is350 f sport with 11,000 miles, about 75% highway mileage.

Do keep in mind that the programming for Sport/Sport+ makes it a VERY expensive setting. At least 8th gear is locked out, 7th as well I believe.

So if you are in Sport or Sport+, it's costing you 5MPG or so. Ouch.

I'd love to have the Sport+ suspension settings and simultaneous use of my entire transmission, but they guy who decided that $45k near-luxury cars don't need the adjustable seats, coin holder, or power tilt wheel of a Corolla decreed against it.

My Is250 is getting 23.0 rightnow with 400 miles My Bmw M4 is getting 21.3
Driving pattern is similar is both cars but i do push my M4 more often than i do in is Its just that it has old engine without fuel saving technology

IS 250
8,000km on the odo

9.0L/100km (~26mpg) 50/50 mix of driving, just in regular mode

I don't drive like an old man but I'm not speed racer either.
