0.1-0.2 seconds difference doesn't matter much and can be explained by elevation above the sea, air/road surface temps, etc., but 1.0-1.5 secs is too huge for such a factors.

Your numbers looks too fast to be true - maybe the iPhone app is not correct?

2nd generation IS is definitely faster then 3IS. If you compare his 0-60 to http://www.zeroto60times.com/Lexus-0-60-mph-Times.html you'll see it's actually quite accurate.

3IS isnt 4000# its 3650#

your results have this huge of a variation from 6.3 to 7 seconds? No consistency at all. Are you even trying to do a launch?

lol. 3650 curb weight. Fill it with gas and put a grown man (200lbs) in it. And guess what....it's almost 4000lbs... Smh

FWIW curb weight includes a full tank of gas. No driver though. Lots of variables in random 0-60 runs.

6.3-7 sounds like you're in a different car..atleast 1.5sec too slow which is a HUGE difference

you have dry weight confused with curb weight. Curb weight includes all fluids necessary for operation including a full tank of gas.

I am confused on why the 2 IS is faster than the 3 IS. If you do the math on both cars, trans. gears to rear gears the 3 IS is actually a very small bit better as far as the acceleration side. I know the 3 IS is a little heavier so that should put them about equal. My only thoughts are that maybe the 8 speed tranny is not as efficient as the older 6 speed. Anyone??

For me it was the pedal placement. In my 2IS the pedal was placed at an angle where I could easily step on it. For the 3IS, I realized I had to plant my entire foot on the pedal in order to get the best acceleration (instead of placing my foot on half of the pedal). Honestly, the 3IS and 2IS feel the same to me, after I rearranged my foot.

I think CL member yowps3 sums it up nicely:

The weight isn't the main reason as the 3IS weighs only a mere 40kg more than the 2IS. From my experience behind the wheel it is apparent to me that the gearing of the 8-speed on the 3IS is just not as aggressive as the 6-speed setup of the 2IS, when doing a 0-60mph pull I feel the 3IS has to shift through too many gears before hitting 60mph and also it doesn't rev as hard & easily as the 2IS does (due to much longer diff ratio), also the old suspended pedal of the 2IS was more sensitive than the floor hinged pedal of the 3IS.

So all in all Lexus probably intentionally tuned the 3IS to be less responsive / slower than the 2IS for MPG purposes to compensate for the added weight.
Lexus pretty much took the transmission and gearing of the 5.0L ISF and dropped it into the 3IS. The issue is that the setup is good for the V8, but the V6 needs much more aggressive gearing like the 2IS had if you want good performance.

Please look up the gear ratios for tranny and rear diff. for the 2IS and 3IS. Now do the math. It is geared as aggressively as the 2IS. I don't care if they did take it from the V8 it still is geared as well as the 2IS for acceleration so there is no good excuse.

That's something I was wondering about too. The gear ratios work out to be more or less the same. I've raced both 3IS RWD (8 speed) and AWD (6 speed) and walked both easily...even giving them the head start.. it almost seemed like the 2IS has 30 more hp. I've driven both 2IS and 3IS and the 2IS definitely feels faster. It's just not me either, my friend with the 3IS said the same thing after swapping cars.
