My IS350 only has less than 3000 miles but I'm thinking about using full synthetic Mobil1 5w30
every 5k miles OEM filters. My truck has 127k miles and has not had any problems.

Visit bobistheoilguy.com - lot of good info over there on 0w20 oil. Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (TGMO) is very highly regarded as one of the best, if not the best, 0w20 available. It's custom formulated by Mobil for Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

You do realize that 0w20 is the Lexus spec?

The weight has everything to do with temperature.
Just because its a good quality oil does not necessary means it fit the atmosphere.
Thinner oil when its cold.
Thicker oil when its hot.
Try to run the 0W20 in your lexus on a track day and see if it's really custom formulated for your lexus.

Been around cars for awhile - I understand all that you point out about oil weights, climate, etc.
I was just pointing out to the previous poster that newer IS350s are specced for 0w20 (at least here in the US). Not sure what the warranty ramifications are for deviating from that - maybe he's not concerned about that - I don't know.
What I meant by custom formulated (maybe worded badly) is that from what I have read and understand, Exxon Mobil formulates the oil per Toyota's specs.
Thanks anyway, we don't "track" my wife's IS, so probably won't be taking you up on your suggested experiment - obviously, racing one of these cars would require a different oil choice.

Wow - you sound like someone with a chip on your shoulder for some reason.

I just did my first oil change. I picked up Mobil 1 0w-20 full synthetic extended performance from my local Auto Zone. I was able to score it for $1.00 a qt since they rarely sold this grade at this particular location. I ended up buying 25 quarts of oil. This should last me a few years!
For the Oil filter and oil plug gasket I picked up OEM from Lexus Dealership.
