Doing my late oil change @ 13k miles.

What type of oil is everyone using? How about filter?

Use 0w20 TGMO (Toyota Genuine Motor Oil) - formulated by Exxon Mobil for Toyota/Lexus engines. Carson Toyota has it for a pretty good price - like 5.60 or so a quart. You might be able to get it at a dealer closer to you. You could also go to Walmart and get some Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra in 5 quart jugs for a little cheaper than the TGMO.

I'm not sure you should run it out to 13k between changes anymore.

What viscosity does everyone use, and why?

Fuel cap says 0w-20. but lexus site states, 5w-20 for an is350, and 0w-20 for is250.

The IS utilizes the same engine since second gen(is250/is350), so why did they change the recommended oil viscosity?

I'm using OEM - whatever the dealership is using. The car has had one service so far. Might consider switching in the next couple of months but I need to know how Lexus Canada treats oil changes done by someone else. I believe that if I have a receipt there shouldn't be a problem

Only if you negotiated that with your purchase - standard Lexus policy is one complimentary oil change - usually at 10k miles.

Does the car have to be leveled to be completely drained?

Or is there an angle from the oil pan

Well yeah - oil changes with the 0w20 are every 10k - so your 10k oil change is your one free one - next one is due at 20k - so there's your "until 20k." Nothing weird at all.

Now some dealers will offer more than the one free change to secure the deal - they'll gladly throw in a few hundred in service to make a few thousand off the customer - especially if they are making bank off an uninformed buyer.

I use OEM 0W30 for my IS250. Better than alternatives from Castrol, offered by some local dealers, and the price is fairly reasonable.

As long as all points of the particular service interval are complete and you have a receipt there should be no problem.
