I did 5% tint in the back and I'd have to say it's a little too dark for my liking when driving at night, but it does feel a lot more private. If you want the darkest possible without the darkness bugging you at night, I'd recommend going 15% - 20%. Definitely don't get 5% as you have to keep in mind it will be hard to see objects such as poles, trees, fences, etc at night.

yes, still waiting on those pics! lol. I actually kinda regretted not going with the 55 at first, but now that I'm used to the 45, i think it looks great. It's actually pretty light. I can still see through it when it's parked in the shade. Couldn't have said that when i had 30% on my old car

20% vs. 35%
Hey guys, I know there's already a million tint posts but i still can't decide between 20% and 35% tints. Going all the way around, what would you guys suggest? Not worried about the tint laws here in Pittsburgh. I have 20% on my RX but I keep reading that the 3IS is pretinted to 70% and some pictures of 35% look dark while some look light. Let me know! (pictures don't hurt either )

FFIW, Automakers began dying glass in the early 2000's thus causing an issue with window tinting. If you install 35% rated film on a vehicle made after the date automakers began using dyed glass, the combination will not meter 35% light penetration. It will net closer to 28%.
This is why you see differences in people's claims of having there windows tinted to 35%.
In most cases you walk into a tint shop and say "I'd like 35% tint please" Some tinters will then us a 45% tint film that when combined with the dyed glass will meter right at 36% giving the car the ability to pass inspection in the states that limit tint levels. Other tinters will just grab the 35% film apply it to the car and then you get 35% film on top of the already dyed glass preventing less than 35% light penetration.
IMO, if your going to go with illegal tint go as dark as you can stand driving with at night. I did Sun Tek carbon 18% all around and love it.. occasionally I have to roll a window down to see in reverse at night.
ninja edit: f'k yeah 30th post!

Ultra White w/ Roja Red interior. 35% Suntek all around. Looks darker in pic than in person. People are still able to see me in traffic and I'm still able to see into the car at night.

Has anybody that got 35% wished they went darker? I wouldn't mind being able to see at night but with Status Grey interior I'm worried that the 35% won't be as dark. Either way the local shop will do 20% or 35% carbon all around for $229.

I have 20% all around.
I would like to get the windshield done but I'm not sure how dark people go on that... 45% maybe?
