It's hard to tell, all you can do sometimes is post the information you have. The fact that the comments say unfair test doesn't mean it is. The way I look at it is it takes a lot more time and effort to go to the trouble to conduct a test like that than it does to post a negative comment, so I tend to put more credibility in the creator of the video. It's too easy for folks with 3M tint that are happy with it to cry BS, but the reality is they don't know unless they were there, so their comments are BS too.

Huper Optik makes high-end ceramic film that is selected for windows of high-end skyscrapers, I doubt car tint even comprises a small percent of their overall revenue. It is widely considered the best tint available, and while its not the cheapest stuff, a lot of Lexus/Porsche/BMW/Audi dealerships refuse to use anything else.

True that they are high quality but I'm going to believe that they are built differently. Huper seems to be hard coated on each side, I'm assuming, while the 3M is not. 3M is also a quality product and I'm sure if you scratch the other side, it won't show the same damage it did on the softer side. For comparison in this video, if they are trying to show that there is a soft side in the 3M, then it is in fact a valid test but I don't think that was stated in the video.

I'm not saying I am right since I really don't know the actual build of these tints, but to test different sides of the tint would just not be fair. That's like testing Drew Brees and Matt Ryan for throwing abilities, but also testing them who's taller. Brees is going to lose. A QB's job is to throw and they both excel in that category. So if the crystalline is going to do what I ask it to do, which is block some light and add some privacy while having reliability in its quality, then it's a good product.

I'm not attacking you or your credibility and I'm sorry if it sounds like it. I'm trying to justify the 3M product and what it has been known for, for years and years to come, it just works.

I didn't take it that way at all. It's just a link I found while searching I thought I would pass it along since folks are discussing tint. I don't know if the comments are valid or not and don't really have a dog in the fight. I just know I've come to not place a lot of validity in youtube comments, because the nature of social networking encourages the type of comments I see there, from folks who weren't there to see all aspects of the test. What would be nice is if there were more comparison tests out there, but they don't seem easy to come by.

Instead of comparisons maybe there are video reviews of each individual product. Just like how phones are being reviewed today. Most are reviewed just by itself but there are also considerable amount of comparison reviews for people being in a dilemma between two phones.

Default Factory vs 3M Crystalline/Ceramic tint

Hey guys, had a question regarding tint and wanted to see what some of you guys thoughts are on the matter.

I specced out a 2015 IS 350 F sport and ordered it yesterday. The dealership said they did their own in house tint (supposedly they had issues with the 3M company they were using in the past) and said they can do all windows for $345. This came with a lifetime warranty - any scratches, bubbles, fading, etc. they would replace at no charge for the life of the car.

I failed to ask if this in house tint job would keep out heat/UV (I'll be asking them the next time I go in) but I'm hoping that's the case. I've done some searching online and really didn't get much of a definitive answer and I know a lot of the information is subjective.

But my question is, is there a drastic difference between the in house tint jobs from Lexus dealerships vs. going with a 3M Crystalline or Ceramic tint job?

Any kind of opinions would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to get the tint and end up regretting it. Then again, I might just be over thinking this whole thing. Thanks for the feedback.

Congrats on getting a new IS350.

I just tinted my windows with the Ceramic tint and I can feel the difference. you can see the quality of the tint. My friend has the factory tint and I've heard nothing by complaints, his bubbles a lot and it doesn't really keep the heat out like Tint should.

I would go with the ceramic tint with a tint specialist, you'll be much happier with the quality.

fronts: 35%
rear: 5%

Super happy with my tint, and I paid like 300 for my tint.

Hope this helps a little

All dealers use different kinds of tint. Saying that, I'm pretty sure most dealers use dye film, so without a doubt the crystalline or ceramic will be much better

$345 for dealer tint, that seems pricey. Personally I like SunTek CXP over 3M you'll save some money and get as good quality as the 3M, if not better.

First of all, there are no factory tints. you mean dealer tints. I have Suntek CXP, looks great and great heat rejection. I think I paid like 285 installed.

Do you ever get pull over for your tint? 35% is really dark for front and 5% in the rear? Can you even see at night?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I found a highly rated (google reviews/yelp) dealer here in Charlotte. On their website, their highest rated tint is the Nano Ceramic tint and 4 doors is $320. So, I'm assuming, a better tint for less - think I'm gonna go that route.

I'll be hitting up Lexus today and telling them to hold off on doing their in house tint.

Thanks again for the responses.

its a little hard to see at night with my setup, but I like it a lot. Gives me a sense of privacy and no one can see into my car.

I also had ceramic done but there's one more step up too. My next ride will get it.
