Default Do I Need To Change My Oil Already?!

Hey guys, was just wiping down the engine bay and decided to check out my oil. level and see how clean/dirty it is. I don't really drive the car hard only once in a while ill push it for a few but I found that my oil looks kinda dirty already. Car has 6250 miles to be exact. I know lexus says we have to change our oil every 10k since its synthetic. Here are some pics and just want some opinions on what you guys think. I felt the oil and rubbed it between my fingers and it was pretty smooth no sediments or anything left behind. Also glad to see my oil level didn't change meaning it was broken it properly and the seals set well . thanks for the advice.

Oil always looks dirty after a couple of thousand miles. No reason to deviate from maintenance schedule.

My Lexus dealer recommended 8000km (5000 mile) oil change.
I do mine every 6000km
That oil does look dark.
I don't see the point of sacrificing engine life for $60 (If you doing it at other shops, synthetic oil too).
Driving on fresh oil is also very rewardable as well.

if you're not running your car hard more than 10-15% of the time and you're using full synthetic oil, it would just be a waste to change it every 5k miles. sure the filter i'd understand, but a full synthetic change every 5k miles?

I think your camera is focusing on the beautiful car instead of the dipstick.

I would go with the maint. schedule, no reason to change it yet.

Recommend you visit bobistheoilguy.com to get educated on oil - there's a lot of great info there.

Yeah I did my oil change at 6k miles and put in mobil 1 extended performance 0w-20. The old oil smelled burned also. I have done many oil changes and never smelled as bad as this one but this is the first time doing an oil change on a new car.

Your car's computer has built in detectors for oil quality and life. If it's not telling you to change it, you don't need to.

2014+ are 10k miles or 12 months on synthetics, 5000 miles is the old interval with dino oil. Dark oil has no bearing on oil life. Do an oil analysis with TBN check to see true oil life. No youre not sacrificing your engine, the oil is still lubricating.

lmao! yeah i couldn't get my phone to focus on the dipstick, even when trying to adjust it. anyways thanks for the feedback guys. this forum is always so helpful. after feeling the oil it still feels fine. no sediments or anything on my finger leading me to believe its just dirty in color but viscosity and cleanliness of it is just fine.

Since 3IS shares same engine as 2IS would this hold true for 2IS models also?

I've always heard 5K intervals even on synthetic but honestly would like to go closer to 7.5 or 10K on my 2IS
