3IS Radar Detector Buyers discussion
#16
I haven't gotten my 3IS yet, but I want to buy a mounting bracket for the rearview mirror. The kind that holds on to the back of the mirror.
Can anyone take side view picture of their rearview mirror for me?
Also, anyone know if it is possible to hardwire it to the home link system?

Reviving this thread a bit. We've had our new IS350 for about 6 weeks and I'm finally getting around to hardwiring the Valentine1. On all my other cars, I've had success tapping the wires of the homelink mirrors using Invisicords. However on this car, I cannot figure out how to remove the overhead lights/sunroof panel controls to access those wires. I can get both cover panels off but unlike other cars that didnt reveal a couple screws/bolts to finish removing the entire assembly. Has anyone do this? If so can they tell me how?

I just looked again. There is no connecter on the mirror, the wires are in the stalk that connects it to the base. If I slide the cover back for the wires, I still don't see access to the connectors.

Radar Detector Help?
Hey guys, I'm looking forward to investing in a radar detector soon.
Any suggestions on a good radar detector I should get into?
And for the volt plug is there any other spot I could plug it up into beside my center console?
Thanks!

Man, I've been considering V1 forever! But I guess i'll just have to save up some more again. Would you recommend anything else beside the V1? Also, what if I don't want the hardwire setup yet? Is the only way to hook it up through the center console for power?

While the Valentine V1 has been the benchmark unit for years (and still continues to be during tests), other manufacturers of radars haven't just been sitting around twidling their thumbs.
Check out the Escort Passport 9500ix:
It's lightyears ahead of the V1 in terms of technology (i.e. using GPS to mark & prevent false positives). The V1 is extremely sensitive and will chirp a lot more often for no reason. The biggest reason that I like the V1 is for their patented "arrows" that tell you where the signal is coming from - not sure how long Valentine has left on this patent, but that's the reason you don't see other manufacturers copy/replecate this in any, way, shape, or form.
You should search online to compare the 9500ix (or 9500ci - which is hardwired, more sensitive than the 9500ix, and comes with some laser "shifters") with the V1 if you're shopping in the upper/high end of the radar market.
Btw, here is an excellent forum (http://www.radardetector.net/forums/forum.php) if you're interested in hearing thoughts from people that test and/or use these higher end units day in and day out.
Give that you stated these are above your price range, I would look into the Beltronics RX65 ( ). I have two of these units and they are excellent. I'm sure you can even find them cheaper if you search on eBay/craigslist/etc. The GX65 is a bit higher end than the RX65 if you want to go that route since it includes GPS technology.
