WOW, you mention FWD and everyone jumps down my throat lol. I completely understand the geometry of the IS but it doesnt mean things can be changed by Lexus. The 2.0 engine design is gonna require a complete rework of the geometry of the car since its a much lighter/smaller engine. Plus FWD drive trains are MUCH cheaper than others so it can be really put in any direction they want. I never said its CONFIRMED FWD, only saying I wouldn't be surprised since the NX is already FWD and alot of IS 4cyl rumors are linked to the NX
And 4Tehnguyen, I know the 3GR egine is both inthe IS/GS and Camry/Avalon/RX. Different versions but same 3.5 block. When you think about it, in the IS AWD, remove the front differential and im sure the small camry transmission can fit right in there
AGAIN I UNDERSTAND THE GEOMETRY OF THE IS, best handling car bla bla bla, setup for whatever. I'm just saying I wont be suprised if the 2.0 engine is a completely different drive train. They MAY do something completely different like even keep the V6 2.5 and 3.5 and offer the 2.0 as a completely different option. Nothing is confirmed so anything I say or anyone else says is just speculation

2) The 2GR-FSE (3.5L, RWD) is in the GS and IS. The 2GR-FE (3.5L, FWD) is in the Camry, Highlander, Avalon, etc. They are NOT the same block. The FWD version does not have the starter flange cast into the block like the RWD version does. The starter is mounted on the transmission side on FWD, mounted on the engine side on the RWD. They share bore and stroke specs, but the engine blocks are in no way interchangeable. One is meant for RWD, one is mean for FWD.
3) Lexus could conceivably go FWD for the next generation IS (2020/2021 timeframe). I don't think they will, but it is possible. I believe that they will develop the Avensis/CT/tC platform to make a low cost legitimate CLA/A3 fighter if they decide to go that low on cost rather than killing off a car that is selling like crazy even with 8 year old engines. They will keep shooting after the 3 series with the IS, IMO.

As an owner living in Europe I really hope Lexus will sell this motorization here as the 250's V6 consumes too much petrol for our standards*...the turbo version hopefully would be a nice thing and will be in direct competition with Mercedes, Audi, Bmw and the future Alfa Romeo turbos.
Anyways, as in some countries like mine Lexus imports hybrid only motorizations, I really hope that in the future they will develop a turbo hybrid unity (Miller cycle instead of Atkinson).
