Default What's the best way to transfer songs to the Hard Drive?

Hi all.

I'll be getting my USB 3IS tomorrow and I'm wondering how I can transfer songs to the car?

USB key (no pun intended)?
Burn a DVD and insert it?
Bluetooth?
From my phone?
All of the above?

Thanks!! Will post pics asap.

theres isnt a harddrive in the car, you can just play it off a USB. You can get the stubby USB drives like these

ORLY!? I was so sure there was one I'm probably confusing with my wife's car... Thanks for the quick answer!
How fast is this? I'm worried about lagggg/stuttering/jumping during playback?

Would a DVD be faster in comparison?

the USB is the quickest to access songs. Playing off the CD is actually quite slow

Actually there is a micro memory card that comes with it. It is behind the ML logo. Mine came with 32 GB.

Don't touch that! If you mess with it, you'll mess up the nav.
Besides, you can't read it in a PC.

Update : I ended up buying exactly what 4TehNguyen posted and it worked flawlessly. No lag, no stutter, no delays. It's like having a Hard Drive in the car. Got the 32gb for almost the same price as a 16gb on Amazon. It's wayyyyy more than I need lol!

Thanks 4TehNguyen!

I actually did because my wife's F30 has it, so I took it for granted. It's not a deal breaker though and a USB drive is actually even better because it's more practical! (to add/delete songs)

no problem. I would honestly rather have a USB drive than a harddrive in the car. What if that harddrive dies? $tealership time. But its no big deal if a USB dies. Even if this car had a HDD you'd still need a USB drive to load it, why not just skip the HDD and play off USB?

Hard drive would be nice as long as it is a solid state hard drive. You don't want a car equipped with a disk hard drive because it will go bad from vibrations over time. Does anyone know what the max memory size the car will read? I'm thinking about getting a solid state external hard drive that has about 250GB.

Not sure about the max storage size that the Lexus head unit can handle, but getting a SSD for simply playing music off of it is a complete waste imho. It's not like you really need the performance of the SSD.

Firstly, would a single USB port provide enough power to even run the SSD? Are the USB ports in the 3G IS USB 2.0 or USB 3.0? According to wikipedia: A unit load is defined as 100 mA in USB 2.0, and 150 mA in USB 3.0. A device may draw a maximum of 5 unit loads (500 mA) from a port in USB 2.0; 6 (900 mA) in USB 3.0.

Even if you could get it to power up, SSD's only have SATA output, you would need some type of adapter or enclosure so that you could get USB output.

The best solution is to get a portable USB stick (similar to what 4TehNguyen suggested) or if space is an issue, I would recommend something like this (
Amazon Amazon
) which has 500GB of space for around $50.

Hope this helps,

I have a spare 250GB SSD that I can use. I'm going to get an enclosure with usb 2.0. I'll have to find one that has a separate dc power input so I can just use the cars dc power. Most of the enclosures use 5Vdc for power, so I should be able to use a separate usb power.
