The IS250 is a 2499cc V6 24v with VVT-i.

Say it has plenty of power when you'r trying to pass at 70 on the freeway and there's a clown who wants to make sure you don't. The 350 barely suffices. To each their own but if you're coming from a 4 banger honda and want more performance the 250 isn't going to give it to you, sure it has better interior and looks better but that doesn't equate to power to the wheels. There are minivans that make it to 60 faster than this thing, that's FRS/BRZ acceleration territory and if you're happy with that then by all means jump in. The price difference between a 250 F-Sport and a 350 non f-sport is virtually non existent, I can find people who paid $5k more for their 250 than I did for my 350 but hey if it puts a smile on their face so be it, it wouldn't put one on mine.
First time I've heard of minvans faster than IS250.

some minivans arent a slouch, they have 3.5 V6. 3.5 V6 camry can smoke FRS/BRZ in straight lines

I would assume the weight would slow down the vans but FRS/BRZ aren't so fast either anyway.

Just for reference, here are some Car and Driver 0-60 mph test figures:

Scion FR-S: 6.4 seconds
IS250: 7.7 seconds
Sienna: 7.8 seconds
IS350: 5.6 seconds

If 0-60 time is a priority, get the 350. I drive 10 miles a day round trip on surface streets, so the 250 is fine for me.

well I use the 350's power every day and enjoy it .. taking off from the lights quicker than all others if you need to swap lanes for a turn ahead, overtaking, quick hits onto a highway etc, or even if you don't.. its nice to know if you need to use it you can.

either way its a great car but I would personally regret getting a 250 when the 350 is in the scheme of things not that much more.

I would take the non 350 f sport (which is fine btw and is actually unique considering everyone has the f sport it seems lol) or a used 350 f sport over a 250 f sport.

don't forget your also getting the 8 speed gearbox on the 350...

I think it just depends purely on what you want, can afford, and how much you value money (if you are tight on money or have a set figure you put into savings).

I set a strict budget for my car payments and it was 350$. I can "afford" $800, $1000, even $1500 dollar/ month leases with my earnings from my career. However, if you are financially smart (my opinion), I believe that you should set a strict budget for all your bills. My car payment for an f sport 250 is 350 a month. For an f sport 350, it would be 400~410 a month. 50$ a month doesn't sound like a lot, but to me, it is equivalent to my water + gas bills.

I came from a modded gti, making 270 horses and 325 lb torque so the IS250 feels extremely slow. But it does serve its purpose: a very nice looking luxury vehicle.

If you are looking to buy a fast car, there should be no question as to purchasing the 350 over the 250. The 250 is slow compared to all of the 2.0Ts out there.

*Edit: Oh.. this was my first post. Hi everyone.

this should be standard on both models regardless of engine size if lexus really wants to stay ahead of the game -- and they're behind at the moment, but when the turbo-four is released i sure hope that all engine variants are paired to the 8-speed transmission.

there is a lot that one can't customize with the IS models -- lexus models in general -- and that's a bit disconcerting given that the competition offers both packages and a la carte customization options.

autoblog tested brz (same as FR-s) at 7.2... http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/23/2...-mile-in-15-3/

So the 250 would be even slower according to your figures

Then he should be able to in his civic. I find this incredibly humorous unless you're lining up next to 78 year old grandmothers in their 88 Continental

Someone mentioned the imprezza, I would assume the WRX....while it was a fine car in it's last gen ($27k) it's now a redesigned ford focus look a like and hits $40k, same as a 350....no way.

you really need to drive a is 250 fsport again.. those can be had for 36000.00 -37000.00 and that's new
true statement. i ordered my 250fsport and got the price down to 37k before taxes and such. was looking at just getting a base model, but for the price of the fsport package and the difference, i would have regretted not getting it later if i had just got a base model.
