Just a FYI but I found out the rear driver's side shock was leaking oil after I jacked up the car to take a look at exhaust options for the car. Car will be in for diagnosis on Monday but hopefully warranty takes care of the part. 3 of the 4 shock are clean and show no signs of oil.

Hard to tell if this is a defective shock or if a pothole destroyed it...

Will update with details after the dealer visit on Monday.

Are you on stock springs?

If the car is lowered on spring, you might need to replace the jounce bumpers otherwise the shocks may not have enough travel and would be under more stress when the car bottoms out.

By "jounce bumpers" do you mean bump stops?

Looking at his signature, he's on RSR Down spring so it's safe to say the spring drop stressed out the shock causing the leak. Fairly typical when you drop the car without changing shocks or modifying the stock bump stop like KumaF mentioned.

Good luck with warranty though because I honestly doubt they will warranty it seeing you have spring installed.

Sorry I forgot to include that I actually didn't install the springs yet since I found this problem. Was taking a look at the stock exhaust and found the leak. Warranty should go through fine.

Hey, was it the driver's side or the passenger side? And how long did it take for them to get the part? They can't take a look at my car until the afternoon so I won't be able to get a ETA for the fix or for the part.

Shock was found to be defective but the part will take up to a month to arrive. They also told me not to load up the car with passengers in the rear rendering my car useless. Should I press corporate to give me a loaner for the time being?

Since it is a defect, and is going to take them that long to fix, I would ask for a loaner. You didn't buy a sedan so you could drive around without passengers. If they refuse, maybe you could get them to take the shocks off of a new car on the lot and swap them.

Yup, spoke to the service advisor today and trying to get a Lexus Corporate case number to authorize a loaner until the part comes.

Even driving around by myself, I can feel the car's rear being unsettled/bouncy. My girlfriend and friends drove behind me and could see the suspension bottoming out over small bumps and bouncing around on flat road.

Car was fixed and returned yesterday. Parts were either overnighted from Japan or somewhere in the USA. I was quoted 3-4 weeks for the part but I got it in about 5 business days.

Ultran- Can you post confirm if the fix was just a straight up replacement???

I'm concerned with this as a resolution. Lots of people having the same issue within such a short time span- means a replacement will simply be leaking again within another 10k. I don't think any of us want to be replacing shocks every 10k. Sigh
