Default Tire width on stock rims/wheels

guys,

based on the wheel specs, our rims are 8 inches wide (front) and 8.5 inches wide (rear)

If i were to convert them into mm,

It would be around:
front: 203.2 mm
rear: 215.05 mm

does that mean, theoretically, i can use 225/40/18 tire for both front and rear?

i cant seem to find the right info to understand this part.

In theory, you can use a wide set of different tyre widths on rims.
Depending on how you want it to look, streched or balooned.

It is fully possible to use 225 in the rear, but you rims edges are more proned to get damaged if you skrape a curbe or something. Usually the edges of the tyres lip are made to protect the rims. But they only work if you have the correct width tyre to match the rim.
For 8,5" wide rims, 245 or 255 are usually recomended.

Just google it. Streched is the first pic.
Balooned is the secod pic.
This is about the limited on streched and balooned, and 225 on 8" wide rims will not look that streched at all. But the tire will not cover the outside on the rim, like it does with the 255 stock tyres.

I'm using 235/40/18's on stock F-sport wheels for my winter setup. Tire Rack's website lists the RIM WIDTH RANGE and MEASURED RIM WIDTH for every specific tire. The latter is the recommended rim width for the tire.
