Default IS350 F Sport Underpower against Germans?

I don't know if anyone also have this feeling as well, but whenever I see a competitive German car such as the S4 , 335, 435, and CLA AMG on the road driving aggressively, I tend to try to compete with these random strangers in the road. Depending on how they respond it can get fun...... I understand it's dangerous, but it's fun lol. Should I trade in this car for ES300H to save me from troubles in the street?

I feel like the IS350 F Sport is the little dog trying to compete with the big doggies like you see in the streets. Opposite of what I just said in the previous paragraph, I just wished that Lexus gave the car enough power to go from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds range.

Main topic of course, do you guys think that the IS350 F Sport stands any chance against the S4, 335, 435, or the CLA AMG? In terms of 0-60...... probably not. We bought this car not just for the looks right?

Considering F Sport isn't a power upgrade, no, I wouldn't try to compare it against any of those. Granted, it matches up relatively well against the 335i, even though it is still slower. But I'd compare it more to the A4 and C350 than S4 or any CLA. And in those matchups it does quite well.

But if you want to compare a Lexus to the S4s of the world, I think you're looking at IS F (or now RC F, I guess)

You bought the wrong car. And yes you will lose. Take it to the track if you truly feel like racing.

^^ Exactly that. F-Sport is equivalent to M-Sport, S-Line or AMG packages, not the M3/RS4/C63.

An IS350 is a lot cheaper than an S4 or comparably equipped 335i. You cannot compare those cars without keeping the price difference in mind. They're definitely in a different league of speed though. The fact that those cars are FI and the IS is NA doesn't help either, especially in real world driving when the extra low end torque from the FI engines are going to make them feel even faster than the numbers would suggest. The IS350 could be a lot more competitive if they went to a turbo V6, even if the actual torque/power numbers stay similar.

I not gonna mention how STUPID and immature is to race on the street. But you knew the numbers 0 to 60 before you bought the car didn;t you. Or you thought those numbers would miraculously change and would overtake S4, 335 and others?!

0-60 doesn't mean much in real world situations! The number matter the most is the 40-60 (which most car manufacturers dont publish anymore). The Germans have better 40-60 numbers and more straight up power curves.

Glad you were able to sum it up as a first response.
I would have otherwise.
Great job.

This goes back to apples and oranges.

That's all well and good. If straight line speeds are so important -- why not get a souped up Mustang. The IS will never win a straight line race but the Germans will have troubles keeping with you through canyons. I know -- I've had a couple try. I'm talking any 2014 German car under 50K.

Don't be ridiculous. The IS350 F Sport competes against the S4 and 335i directly. The Germans have better engines in terms of performance.

You can't say the IS350 competes and beats the Germans in price then say the IS350 doesn't compete with the S4/335i when performance doesn't turn out in favor of the IS350.

And for the record, your beloved magazines that you guys use for reference all the time compared the IS350 against the 335i and S4.

They also compared the ISF against the M3, RS4, C63

Boy you're not going to be happy when you hear the latest C-Class drops the C350 NA V6 for the C400 with a new Twin-Turbo 3.0L V6 putting out 329 HP / 354 LB-FT

In answer to your question which is just based on 0-60, no the IS350 does not stand a chance. But the IS350 is about overall balance and a "fun to drive" car.

Good news though for you power lovers is Lexus is working on new FI mills which should include a FI V6 for future Lexus models.

It's ridiculous to compare cars that are separated by $10,000 in price without keeping the price difference in mind. Of course a car that's $10,000 cheaper than another will suffer in one area or another over its more expensive counterpart. This is common sense. The point is, all of the whining about X car being slower/less luxurious than Y car is irrelevant without the proper context - the price being one part of the puzzle.

Yes, the Germans have engines that have better torque. Yes, their engines are less reliable than Lexus. Yes, the Germans have worse steering. They also trail in a number of other areas.

If the benchmark is engines -- then that opens up the game to all kinds of cars -- and engines seem to be the sole fixation IS bashers. I maintain there are cars at the same price point that have better, faster engines than the Germans.

If you look at the Gestalt of the sub 50K car then one can easily see the value in an IS.

I will not buy a German car so I can race it in a straight line. If I really want to be a street racing King -- I'll buy a Vette .

The only one that might come close is the M235i Coupe. Just built one on BMWUSA.com

Base MSRP $43,100, Black Sapphire Metaliic Paint $550, Premium Package $2,300, Technology Package $2,150, Heated Front Seats $500, Destination and Handling $925 = $49,525
