Wheel and Tire Insurance

I bought an extra F-Sport Wheel and tire off of ebay for $280 from someone who had upgraded their wheels and tires. In the event I do damage a wheel or tire I am covered. That is my insurance. I live in Illinois (land of the potholes) and I've had BMW's and Lexus's with quite low profile tires and never damaged a wheel, yet.
I refuse to pay any dealership for the Tire and Wheel insurance. It is absurdly priced. I pay $500 per year to insure my entire $50,000 car. There is no way I would ever consider paying that much money to additionally insure $3000 worth of wheels and tires.
I understand some feel more comfortable buying the wheel and tire insurance. No offense to you but I thought I'd give you my perspective.

Smart move and price on the extra wheel/ tire. $500.00 for insurance for the year, how did you manage that?

Insurance rates are based on situational and statistical analysis more than the actual car itself. While the car does play a part in the rate the bigger factors with my company are credit rating, location, and driving record. I also have multiple policies with them (house, motorcycle, etc) so there are some hefty discounts added to the equation, as well. I recently switched from a BMW to my Lexus and the rate went down $6 per year.
Luckily, I don't live in or near Chicago and my area has relatively low insurance rates. I hope it stays that way .

Hit a pothole and the attached is going to cost $260 + tax tomorrow (tire, mounting, balancing and installation).

Oh no! Sorry to hear that! Potholes are the worst! But at least your wheel isn't damaged.
