What brand and type of oil should I use?

I think I used 0w-20, it's my GFs car but I used whatever the manual says. It's not brand-specific but based on some past research when doing used oil analyses (UOAs) for my STi, Pennzoil oils seemed to hold up fairly well during the course of an oil change interval and you can get it for a decent price at Walmart. TBH, if you can find 0w-20 Mobil 1 from Costco that should be sufficient in a normally aspirated car. I ran my 04 TSX for 80K with Mobil 1 synthetic using 6K mile change intervals with no issues, though I'd never put that in my STi after seeing some UOAs of it in turbocharged applications. Brake pads? Are you asking if I've changed them? No, other than reported dust issues, why would you change it on a brand new car? The past 2IS had an issue with excessive dust in which a TSB was issued and the dealer replaced the original pads with a lesser-dust pad. My ex-wife had a 2 IS and while the new pads were great during car washing time, they definitely didn't stop the car as well. I don't think the current 3IS has that bad a problem with excessive brake dust.

Toyota Genuine Motor Oil - Synthetic 0w-20 has gotten rave reviews on a big message board which is strictly about engine oil analysis called 'Bob is the oil guy.' That's probably what I would use, but I would expect it to be somewhat expensive compared with whatever is on sale at Autozone. I bet it's never on sale.

+1 I was going to say it's synthetic hence the premium cost and if you will do it yourself, but don't skimp out and put in conventional oil to save $20 in the end.

0W-20 says the manual. But im not worry about that till 3 years from now. I got 2 years free maintenance. Yay!

GTR uses Mobil 1 0w40 and it's inexpensive! I would check out Mobil 1 0W20 for the lexus.

Not yet considering I got the car 6 days ago but I've been contemplating on taking it to the dealer depending on how much they charge. Luckily the 5k and 10k mile services a complimentary so I'll ask them about pricing when I take my car in.

I have 6 complementary services (2 a year for 3 years).

I took my car in after 4+ months with about 4,500 miles and was told they use synthetic oil and it doesn’t get changed until 10,000 miles. So all they did was an inspection. I don't think they even checked the tire pressure. If I would have known before hand, I would have waited for the 10,000 miles.

The two "best" oils I've been hearing about lately are Rotella-T synth and Castrol Synth, but only the european blend (and I think that only comes in 0W-30). Everybody has their preferences of course and I've never done an oil analysis, but all my vehicles have been getting the Castrol european blend for the past few years.

Not to dig up old posts but those 2 oils you mention are a huge hit with the Subaru crowd. I myself run Rotella 5w-40 synthetic and have got multiple UOAs showing its great anti-shear qualities.
