Driving in sport mode you should expect your fuel economy to plummet.

To the guy who bought the IS for it's fuel economy... Well, some pre-purchase research would have revealed that fuel economy is not an IS strong-suit. A BMW 328 might have been a better choice. Or an Accord.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy my car but I think it's perfectly reasonable to have an opinion that Lexus could have made improvements especially when you consider that we've had the same engine since 2006~ (I think).

I've been able to squeeze 29mpg on the hwy from my old 2007 TL that was rated at 26mpg hwy. (I remember trying to hit the magic number because the original MPG values before the 2008 EPA standard was 29MPG. I know, I'm weird ).

Huh? I researched and test drove all.

This isn't about the IS' strengths, or about the competition.

No matter what, my IS should be getting significantly better mpg's than the 5,000 pound Range Rover it replaced. I downsized big for... fuel economy, yes, fuel economy.

I was cruzing up to LA from SD, when I got to the 710 and 405, this is the mileage that showed up. I now have 2k miles coming back home from LA ,

So my sister has an 2007 IS250 AWD. My sister told me her dealership advised her to shut off the ECT because it sucks a lot of gas. Additionally, her dealer told her that she did not need to turn it on because she already had AWD. Anyone know if this is true? I'm going o try this on my 2014 IS350 AWD.

My car is still getting poor mpg's not near what's advertised, marketed, or as tested.

I'm getting between 11 and 14 mpg's, at best, and I'd be too nervous to leave traction control off.

No matter how much I baby it - driving style-wise - this is all I am getting. Very frustrating.

Anyone else still have this problem?

Are you constantly sitting in traffic or going very slow because of traffic? I live in the 'burbs where speeds are generally between 35-45 with general traffic and red lights. I have always averaged 22 mpg and recently on a road trip I averaged 28.

11-14 MPG is very low. Do you experience a lot of stop-and-go or traffic lights in your daily commute?

My daily drive is 80% highway and 20% city, but I have accepted the fact that the advertised figures are unattainable (at least from the Canadian site). Lexus.ca says a IS350 AWD can get 7.7/11 L/100KM (or 21/30 MPG City/Hwy). I average closer to 12.8-13.0 L/100KM (18 MPG combined). I think you can only reach their figures going downhill and drafting behind a huge truck.

I'm 100% City. Traffic lights pretty much every 1/4 of a mile. I'm getting 17+ MPG average on eco/normal mode, 15+ MPG on Sports+ mode.

My commute is 5 miles and it takes me 15-20 minutes depending if i catch the green lights or not, or a mixture of both.

Averaging 19 mpg and I drive 22 miles a day. I only drive in Sport +..... Any other mode is pointless to me coming from an M3. Gas is cheap right now so I'm pedal to the metal!

I average around 18 to 20 MPG in regular driving consisting of 80% city/20% highway although I spend most of my time in Sport+ and use the flappy paddle shifters since I miss shifting my own gears (the flappy paddle gearbox is not a substitute for a third pedal but it will have to do until Lexus hopefully packages a 6MT with the new 2.0 turbo). I tend to drive a bit harder than the average driver, partly because I live in DC where I am constantly dodging idiots, and partly because I love spirited driving and hearing the WOT sound from the engine.

In city driving I average 16 to 18 MPG and on the highway I get 25 to 27 MPG. The IS350 is definitely thirstier than my previous car, a Subaru Legacy Spec.B which was tuned to 320HP/330FT-LBs which used to get around 20 in mixed driving and almost 30 on the highway. But that car had a proper 6MT and I was able to granny shift and in regular driving to get decent fuel economy.

With 4k miles now, averaging about 19mpg in is350 f sport, typically driving in Eco mode. Definitely more of a hard driver though so it's understandable, my 335i with the same driving habits was around 22mpg.

Still, the 335i was in the shop all the time. The 335i reliability was so horrible, that I let 2-4 indicator lights come on usually before bringing it in for repair. This is because the problems were so frequent, it was only worthwhile to let the problems collect up in bunches, in order to bring the car in for service/repair once a month, not once a week.

So the trade off of 3 mpg less is still well worth it. Would definitely be nice though if the gas mileage in the IS was better.
