So the trunk light cover was a little harder than I thought to take out...



Any suggestion on what bright 6000K white LED bulb that I can swap the stock one with? Thanks.

Looks like the side prong broke off there, it was extremely hard to remove.

As for bulbs, I used a VLED 5smd LED bulb. Looks pretty good.

I used these throughout the car - Autozone $10.. it's an Osram bulb.
Yes you broke the light - so did everyone I spoke to when they removed it...

Good news - it's not $30 - register with Sewell Lexus on-line using CL and you will be entitled to discounts which are pretty good. just a quick glance - Sewell reg. price is $19.00 You can also shop at Toyota as they use the same lamp and no doubt would be less than a Lexus dealer.

geez $19 for one LED bulb? While i havent used the sylvania bulbs to comment. I've bought these before, they are cheap and seem to work fine

I can tell you right now try not to use an 194 that has way too many LEDs on there. Mine actually overheated inside the plastic cover when I left the trunk opened and was installing turn signal. The housing does not cool well.

The stock bulb is halogen. Halogen becomes a lot hotter than any LED bulb.
I have a LED bulb with a lot of leds on the bulb, and it has not gotten warm at all.

Maybe there is something wrong with your led bulb if it becomes very hot?

This is what I have running. Buy a LED panel with adhesive backing. The LED panel should have adaptors to allow you to connect to the 194 style connections.

This should be brighter than just sticking a bulb in that reflector housing since the light is not lost in the hole there.

You're only talking couple LEDs on a single 194. Try the 194 that has 20+ LEDs and they will get hot as well. The LED i bought from a vendor here and it has no problem at all if its used in the back up signal. Just not not the trunk light. Glass bulb can take higher temperature tolerance not LEDs. In my case the LED bulb simply melted.

I already notified the vendor and already sorted the problem out with a cooler LED replacement. I just wanted to share my two cents before any of you install a bulb like this because it will melt and worst case a fire.

I'm using a similar kind of bulb. Also bought from a forum vendor.
But I've never felt any heat from my bulb. So it is probably a different bulb.

Well better to be safe than sorry. But then again, if you don't leave the trunk opened for a quite awhile, it's not really an issue. I have left it opened for more than 10 minutes and it started to smoke. I have tried the same type I have gotten from the same vendor and all 3 bulbs smoked.

The replacement I got is much cooler but obviously only has 5 LEDs on it.

Ok. After doing some research and measurement, I decided to install 12-LEDs panel for the trunk light, and also for the door lights.






Apparently they look pretty bright even under daylight. Will post pics of the LED at night when I get a chance.

Btw, the broken trunk light cover snapped back on as solid secured as before. So, I'm gonna just live with it and save some bucks from replacing it.
