Default Headed into negotiate...how much to start at?

Interested in purchasing a Lexus IS 350 AWD F-Sport w/ ML audio. MSPR is $49.9k. How much can I expect to get off MSRP? Not sure where I can start negotiations at.

1. I am currently a student that is about to graduate if that helps (graduate degree). Not sure if that counts for their student discount. Also, is this actually a real discount or something I would be able to negotiate anyways even if I wasn't a student?
2. I live in Portland, OR.
3. Does the fact it's the end of the year help?

That car must have more than just ML if the MSRP is $49.9k.

You should be able to strike up a really good deal today/tomorrow. Look at TrueCar.com for what people are paying in your area. Some people on this forum have claimed they got a Student Discount. I would probably try to negotiate the deal before throwing that on there. About 3 people claimed they got $5-6 below MSRP ...but that is cutting pretty deep into dealer holdbacks. You can always start there tho. I think a more realistic but still far better than what most are getting is $3-4k below as $2-3k seems to be the most common good deal most are getting.

But ya, TrueCar.com since they use the same engine USAA does. If there is no data in your area (like mine) than use California as it will be to your advantage since CA is getting the best deals in the country right now.

I got $5k off MSRP. Right now is the time to buy so you can get a really good deal. Right now most Lexus dealers are going $2k under invoice to sell these cars (at least in CA they are). But it makes a difference on which car you want. You won't get as good a discount if you're looking for a red interior because that car is in demand. The best thing to do is find out what the invoice price of the car is and go well under that. Worse they can do is say no but make a low offer and see what they counter with. You can always walk away and I guarantee they won't let you or they'll call you right back. The key is to tell them you are ready to buy "right now". Once they hear that they won't let you leave. But again, it depends on the build you want. My guess is that on a $50k car the invoice is between $45-$47k so you could probably get it for under $45k. Ask them to show you the invoice price, they'll do it. Good luck!

I first had been negotiated my 350 F Sport RWD down from $48,900 to 45ish. I had been playing dealerships against each other and the day after christmas one of them came in and ended up doing the deal at $42k. Lease payments are $504 a month 36 months at 15k miles a yr and they tinted the windows as well as included the 36month 45k mile maint plan.
