Default Why did you upgrade your F-sport wheels?

I noticed that a lot of folks are upgrading their wheels on their F-sports. Not saying its good or bad (not my place), but just curious why. I feel like the stock F-sport wheels are pretty darn nice for this car. I've also noticed that folks are changing to larger and heavier wheels which seems counter-intuitive to performance. Is it just to get a more unique look, or is there some other reason driving folks to change the stock wheels so soon.

I wanted a set of F-sport wheels for my newly acquired RWD 350. However, the car is primarily my wifes car and she did not like those wheels. I was all ready to hit up one of these owners to whom you are asking the question. Plenty of take offs out there to be had. And I would suspect it is all about style and being unique.

Because the factory wheels are stuffed too far inside the wheel wells, tires are stretched in the rim because the tires are too narrow for the width of the rim. They look very undersized to me and the wider the tire the better grip and less sidewall flex equals better performance.
I think the wider rims and tires completes the aggressive look of the car.

I'm not sure if mine would be considered an upgrade as they are F-Sport style wheels, same size. Mine are practically the stock wheels, but just plated with a black pearl metal. I opted for this instead of the alloys, because I like the look of the black wheels on my black car.

That is nice view! I wish I could enjoy that during winters!

Are you driving on the beach?

Because the stock F wheels are heavy and they stuck too much inside.
There are some bigger and still lighter wheels on the market.
Each 1lb unsprung weight lighten on the wheels equal to 4 times lighter.

They just looked too small on the car.

Thanks. Yeah, we're pretty fortunate to have decent weather during winter here.

Ha. I wish I could drive on the sand, but It's not legal on this beach. My car was parked very close to the edge where the concrete meets the sand.

So it seems that its mostly aesthetics. I never got the impression that the wheels look too small or too set in, but definitely a subjective thing. Also, I think if you're coming from a car that had aftermarket larger wheels you tend to get used to certain proportions (e.g. wheel size vs car).

I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't some big functional drawback to the factory wheels.

For me, it was aesthetics and weight.

Since each wheel was 27-28lbs each, I saved about 11-12lbs on each corner. I stuck with 18's btw.

Out of curiosity, which wheels did you get? Thats a 48lb saving which is quite a bit.

Funny thing - as I leaving work to the parking garage I gazed upon my car and found myself thinking that the wheels looked too small! I've been tainted by this thread

I'm getting 19's, and they are around 20.5 lbs. each. Bigger and lighter!
