Well, this particular "flop" has sales that are up about 100%, so...
The CR review, in my opinion destroyed CR's credibility, not the IS's. C'est la vie folks, can't please them all.

I can see where they are coming from. For 36k there are a lot of choices for a "fun" car. And I guess that was his/her's main point on why the car was a flop. But there aren't many other cars for 36k with a very "luxurious" and comfortable car. Depends on the buyer/driver

I think the the Is250 in any generation is complete trash.
The only reason why i'd see getting a 250 is simply because it's a "Lexus". I would rather get any other competitor against the Is250.

I love how the negative reviews always focus on the underpowered 250. I think that the 250 is enough power to just cruise from point A to B without any thrills. At the end of the day it is a Lexus. Many still buy it for the brands COMFORTable ride, and the Lexus badge.
Just curious; are there any negative reviews on the 3IS 350 model? F sport or non.

I wonder what they think of a base model BMW 320i, since the complaints they're launching seem to be for the lowest end stripper model. Anyways, the ratings are of such a subjective nature, and I found the IS 250 I test drove (in F-Sport guise) very fun to drive. Sure, it's not the fastest car, but it's super solid, confident, and compliant on the road, and noticeably nimbler than the 335i I also tested. But hey, I guess a bad review is more entertaining to sell than a middling one.
I mean, they also gave a Chevy Impala a 95.

Not a fan of these kinds of articles in general as there are always better things I can I be doing with my time ...like picking fleas out of someone's hair.
But wait a minute, wait, wait, Consumer Reports is still around? People still read that, really? They may have been relevant in the 90s but outside of this article its been probably 1-2 decades since I've even heard someone mention them and that was my dad. Outside of that moment I really cannot think of when I've heard someone taking their opinion/advice seriously. Even my dad moved on to online review sites and he hated computers.
But if their writers aren't intelligent enough to comprehend basic English words like "flop" I can see why they're irrelevant.

According to most other reviews, the new IS line is a fun to drive car. And the lighter 2.5 handles better than the heavier 3.5. CR is wacked. In fact, they are so off their rocker lately, they forgot to include the entire IS car in their latest buyers guide.
However, I do believe Lexus should get a lot of heat for bringing in an all new car with the carry-over 2.5. The base motor should have been the main thing addressed with the redesign, as Lexus took a money-savings way out and staggered the new engine release for next year. This type of bean counting and marketing did not help the launch of the 2006 GS300 and it's not helping with the new IS250.

For me CR lost their touch when they gave the new impala the best car title and one of the highest ratings of all time . I see the impala on the street and its not attractive , it looks like any car on the street. The is250 is under powered in my opinion , but it still drivers good.

I do look at CR for their owner surveys and reliability data. I'll look to them to see if a particular model has shown, for example, electrical issues or body integrity concerns. But that's where their usefulness ends. I will not look to them for an opinion on how a vehicle drives. They seem to be an inconsistent source for that type of data.

It's all relative . Your IS350 is a snooze fest when it comes to power delivery compared to an S4 with an APR tune or a 335 with a Cobb AP and an exhaust system.
Wanna move with traffic in style buy a 250. Wanna move through traffic and attack on ramps in style buy a 350.
I see a lot more 250's on the road than 350's.
