What does the dealer do to prep? If the customers complained you would think they would change their process.

It's not so much prep there is a process called pdi the techs go over the car to make sure everything works and is safe even tho it's new it's still a mass produced vehicle and mistakes will be made that's why all cars even cars that haven't been test driven have 3-5 miles on them also in the case of Toyota they need to add the radio fuse so the sterio works at the end of the day the dealership is responsible for the car you buy that it is safe and everything works. In the case of Toyota where I work I have seen very very rarely a new car that the brakes didn't work, tpms were bad, headlights didn't turn on. So the extra day tops it takes to "prep" the car in the long run is worth it you know your getting a safe fully functioning vehicle

They wash and wax the car. One wash is all it takes for a dealer to swirl up your car.

Wonder if the dealership would pay for a professional detail?

Back to topic. I got a set of gloves for the smart key.

Subarus are notorious for getting swirl marks from the dealer's prep, it's sad, really. I find they're most obvious on black, too.

As for my "gift", I was given a bottle of wine when I drove off with the car. Obviously full tank of gas, too, but I don't consider that a gift, that's just normal.

I got a few Buffs, a ballpoint pen and a combined shovel, axe and saw kit - all Lexus branded. Got it in a gift bag when we picked the car up.

I have absolutely seen dealers do that...and when I was detailing cars professionally years ago I had many customers who had dealers pay me to polish cars they had swirled.
