Anyone else getting this smell from the Cats after aggressive driving?? Smells horrible and out of the 5 Lexus vehicles I have owned, this is the only one with a heavy sulfur odor!!

The '08 IS250 that I just traded in did that. The dealership said it was normal, and Toyota has had TSBs in the past instructing dealers not to make repairs for the issue. There are times when suddenly dumping fuel into the cats will produce hydrogen sulfide- it's a natural byproduct of combustion.

That being said, of all my cars I only noticed it in my '08 IS250.

My '08 aslo does after I've crested a hill and park. Dealer said the same as what hades281 said. Since the new 250's mechanics are the same, I'm not surprised it's popping up again.

As soon as you smell it drive cross wind and head for the meeting point... Just joking , anyway this is weird I never got a car that produces this much H2S , I would say fill your car from another gas station , but it seems like a problem with the car's engine design .

Just drive normal (by normal I mean like grandma...) for at least 5 minutes before turning off the engine. That should allow some cooling on the exhaust and also other parts like brakes and the engine itself. It is in fact a good practice to do this after aggressive driving.

I know of a guy (a friend of a friend) that long time ago got his car smoked on the inside after aggressive driving one night and turning the engine off right away. The cats burned (they were probably clogged) and the smoke got into the interior giving a good BBQ smell to the car for about two months after the event. Not nice... lol
