Road&Track: October 2013 - IS vs ATS vs 3 vs Q50 - WINNER?????

Those 3IS numbers almost match the 2IS especially in the 0 - 60 mph.
What were the slalom speeds??
What were the slalom speeds??
0-60 / quarter mile / slalom / braking 60-0:
3: 4.9 s / 13.5 s / 0.87g / 124 ft
ATS: 5.4 s / 14.0 s / 0.89g / 119 ft
Q50: 5.3 s / 13.8 s / 0.86g / 123 ft
IS: 5.4 s / 13.9 s / 0.85g / 126 ft
The IS has the worst tires (Turanza ER 33) (3 has Potenza S001s) which explains the worst (not by much) braking and lateral grip. No surprise on the acceleration with the 3's turbo six...

And let's not forget that ease of maintenance and reliability weren't even considered. Traditionally factors that Lexus excels at.
If reliability were considered, choosing an IS would be even more of a no-brainer decision...

^^^^^ True, 0.85g is the skidpad "roadholding". Unfortunately, no slalom stats. My guess is because the testing was more on the open-road than on a track and again, this is where the IS excels as an overall superior performance and real-world driving vehicle.
Other stats:
Braking Fade, NONE for the 3 and IS, LOW for the Q50 and ATS
Mild Understeer for all four.

Based on some of the posts I've read on this forum about how BMW blows away the Lexus in a straight line I'm surprised to see how close their times are. Granted another 50hp would be nice but still not too shabby.

I've seen the IS F-Sport in the flesh and I think it's the most beautiful compact sedan on the roads at the moment. Even if it were to be docked 1 or 2 points for styling, it would still win overall, so great is its points lead over the second place finisher, the BMW 335i.

I like the new IS styling because it doesn't look like every other car out there. TheQ50 styling is boring, the car looks like every other newer 4D sedan. The G37 was a nice looking car, but they took a step backwards with the Q. I agree with the numbers.

I don't know what it is exactly about the q50 styling, but I thought it had, despite being a bit conservative and boring, potential when the rendering below was shown.

And even though the final product seems close to that rendering above, it just doesn't seem to flow as well. So now all that is left is conservative and boring in my eyes.

Awesome stuff!! Notice how there's not even one category where the IS scores below 4. Thanks for the scan corradoMR2!
The Q50S has the best ride quality of the four? I thought others have commented that it's too stiffly sprung.
Also, is the 335i equipped with the M-Sport package? I can't tell.

And one other crucial item to publish here. Price. The IS is the BARGAIN similarly equipped as tested:
IS: $47,955
3: $49,225
Q50: $51,805
ATS: $52,405
