Great News For Texans Regarding Spindle Grill
Picked up my FSport yesterday, and come to find out that you no longer need a FRONT license plate starting next week. So my spindle grill will not have a license plate or holder on it.

Are you sure about this? I'm getting Texas plates even though I'm in Nevada because its much cheaper, I just moved from there (still have Texas drivers license) and wifey is military. I heard the issue was being voted on but hadn't heard that the bill passed yet.

Im sure I brought my FSport on Saturday, and they told me about the new law and I didn't need a front plate. I was so sure they were going to place a license plate holder with the logo till I got my official plates. I will post pics soon.

this is nice news, but not a huge deal. I've been running my 2007 IS since new in Texas without a front plate, and haven't been pulled over once. My experience is only the podunk small towns will issue tickets, and you might get pulled over if you are being an a**hat otherwise, but usually not a big deal. in any case, nice to not worry about the small towns too :-)

I heard that a couple of days ago. However, after some searching online, it seems that it was only a bill that never passed the first level of voting. You still need the plates on the front bumper and the only change happening 9/1 is that the ticket has been clarified as a misdemeanor up to $200 for not have the front plates.
I hope I am wrong

Again, I got my information from the dealership. By default we all know they put a license plate holder on the front and back in Texas. So I'm going to leave it at that. You will be pleasantly surprised once you pick up your new ride without the front license plate holder.

Being ex-law enforcement myself, I can honestly say the front plate is strictly a tactic to make a stop for probable cause or simply generate revenue. It does not help in much of any other way because of the time for which you might have a front plate in view for you to take a mental note of it.
While I've never run a front plate on my cars for over 10 years now, I find it silly law makers push for it for any reason other than tax revenue. And the liberal media that wrote that first article just makes the case for front plates that more lax. Heck, I don't even like having my registration sticker in the windshield anymore because it looks like something HP printed on their printers. I keep it in the glove box for those rare occasions, but that's it. Generally police are friendly on my infrequent pull over. But there are some a-holes out there too. Power goes to their head and such.
There are more pressing matters for law makers such as illegals as they call them being in the country, drug problems, or issues with punishment for DUIs. Yet there are all sorts of loopholes here for these things.

Good information. I will reinquire at the dealership. As you can clearly see, they didn't even mount a front plate holder and they sent me home that way. I was always under the impression that I needed one from the start.

I just told them I didn't want them to drill so I used my tow hook instead.

I have yet to encounter any law enforcement over the front plate. In the DFW area many luxury dealerships, such as Lexus don't put the front bracket on their cars, but do include the bracket with purchase. Which intern has helped it not be such a big issue. I do keep my registration sticker in the window because many cops now scan the barcode on the sticker to indeed prove it is valid.
