Default Bend in the center speaker of the 3IS dashboard

Has anyone thought that the "seam line" or bend in the middle of the center speaker on the dashboard looks out of place? I had a couple of passengers commenting on it. It seems like an odd design!! I have the standard audio system in a non F-Sport IS350.

Yes, I've noticed it. I think it's to stiffen the mesh, to stop it from vibrating.

I forgot where I read about that, either in the manual or somewhere within the interior descriptions.

Basically it is a line purposely placed so you can orient yourself towards a straight line. What good will that do? I have no clue, maybe for parking purposes and whatnot?

Hmm... didn't think of that purpose... it is more or less dead center in the dash, so why not

This is not a dead centre in the dash, unlike the case in 2IS where there is not an actual speaker under the centre grille with the standard sound system.

In 3IS, that location is either a 6.5cm mid-range speaker with the standard system or a 9cm Unity speaker (tweeter+mid-range) with the ML.

I think the pike in the middle of the centre grill is to disperse sound more evenly. Maybe it is more effective with either the standard or the ML, just like in 2IS, Lexus put a centre grill despite there is no speaker underneath for the standard sound system.

I'm 80% sure they explain it in the manual, I'm at work now so I can't confirm but I remember reading about that.

It's not a bug, its a feature! I also read that it's a center line, it was from the 2014 IS Model Year Perspective (2014is.com):

Raised Speaker Centerline
Helping drivers maneuver in tight spots, even down to the smallest detail, a subtle ridge on the top of the dash-mounted speaker indicates the vehicle's centerline

Thanks for the correct information. My guess is wrong then. It is impressive to see the attention that Lexus has paid to details.
