Default Lexus IS350 F-sport same price in Canada and US?

I built an IS350 F-sport at Lexus.com and it came out to be $48,842.

I built the same IS350 F-sport at Lexus.ca with the exact same specs and it came out to be $48,950 before the 5% GST in Alberta.

Am I missing something?? Is this because of parity of the dollar?? There used to be a time back in 2002 when people in Canada used to pay 40% more for exactly the same car, but then the dollar at that time was 1: 1.50 at the time.

The IS is still a tad expensive in Canada than in the States. Note all US-spec IS F Sport vehicles are equipped with twin LED headlamps as standard equipment where you cannot even get it in F Sport in Canada at all.

Plus $2K for transport and prep versus less than half for the US... But yes, 10 years ago or more, the price difference was significantly more expensive in Canada than in the US.

Thanks guys. I knew there still might be a tad difference in OTD cost. But, in Alberta we pay only 5% GST, which is less than sales taxes in majority of the US states so it comes out to be a bit cheaper than importing to Alberta from the adjacent US states.

I can bet this must be due to the competition faced by local dealerships due to record number of imports from the US.

Anyway, I was really surprised and immediately thought about how it used to be back in early-2000s.

Right, 5% in Alberta versus 13% HST in Ontario = almost $4K more in taxes

That's a lot.. the more expensive the car is, the more price difference will be.
