If you want amazing performance and can afford it...here ya go..

http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detail/advan_a048

They don't do well in the winter but in the summer...oh man...its like having claws covered in tar. That's what your corners will feel like.

American tires are meh and overpriced...

Dunlop Direzzas Z2 are nice tires.

For street, I think Falken FK-452 is best bang for the buck from Discount Tire. =)

Michelin Pilot sport will have the tire lip around the rim that you were talking about. I was always a fan for the Toyo T1R tires and Bridgestone Potenza are nice as well.

F12 come with MPSS. I've never tried them, but my understanding is that P Zero's have better initial traction but get worse after a few thousand miles. I've had my MPSS for over a year and they are great, even in rain.

If you are not going too crazy, PSS should be good enough for normal person.

I suggest RE11 or RE11-A, if you want real performance.

PSS is a level lower than RE11/RE11-A.

This lip is just a little extra rubber seal around the egde of the rim. It is there to protect the edge of the rim from curb rash.
If you are planning on using a wide rim with a tire that is stretched, the lip will not do the job it is desgined to do.

MPSS are the new 'official' replacement tires for Porsche Carrera GT super cars (which are no longer in production)

Conti or Pirelli are the weapons of choice for me. Pirelli's are great tires initial use or not I have them on both or my cars and they work well. It's just a matter preference but you can't go wrong on both.

Wrote this in another thread before.

I really liked the Continental Sport Contact 3 I had on my Audi. Very good traction, particularly in curves. A bit noisy because of the sports chassis though. CSC 5 is said to be quieter, but equally good grip.

One tyre that hasen't been mentioned at all is the nokian Z-line.
It is an affordable preformance tyre with very low noice level.
I've tried it on my toyota mr2, and my friend uses them on his impreza STI. They preform good on dry roads, excelent on wet roads and has a very low noice level.
They are a lot better than the stock bridgestone turanza's.
and they are half the price of the michelins.
