Similarly equipped 328i is already 2k more expensive than IS350, no comparison to 335i. Easily it would be 8k over F-sport.
But then you do get lot more stuff as standard like memory seats, tilt down windows and folding which Lexus is not offering for F-sport.

its 49k vs 62k in comparo... all that stuff is valued at less than $1k.

All that 335i has is the engine, everything else IS wins.

with options picked out, it is $58k vs 48k... i kept leatherette in BMW as well. Both RWD. Also, IS has LED headlights and ML, LFA instruments, while BMW has larger nav screen and heads up.

It's 49k vs 55k in my price comparisons (RWD), so about $6k more. For that, you get an engine that's as much better than the 350 as the 350 is better than the 250. And that price difference is $6k as well. I'd say it's a fair deal.

Also, you do get more luxury items on the BMW for that $55k. Also, the BMW has bigger back seats. Etc.

I don't know, I think it's more of a flavor thing. I don't think either car is clearly better than the other; they both have pro's and con's in different categories. Even the C+D comparison had them only one point apart after what, 20-25 categories?

I think if Lexus upgrades the engines a bit, it'll be the clear choice, hands down. I can't imagine why they stuck with the old engines.

As I suspected there are certain value adds that one would expect when paying thousands more and if we add resale value and % of depreciation after 3 years the difference would be greater -- assuming the BMW is trouble free. I'm all for learning about cars that are better than the one I own but I do appreciate when it's all put into context. I'm the kind of guy who considers never having to go to a dealer a luxury and I feel good when I get value. I had a 385hp Genesis and found the power was breath taking up to 30 mph which is when I got stuck in traffic next to the BMW's. The Genesis 5.0 R-spec at 429 hp would be the car for torque and speed -- I think it's quicker than the BMW 335i M-sport for about 41K (after negotiating) but it is after all only a Hyundai.

Thanks for this post as I'm on the same boat. Lots of good info/opinions. My lease is up in Sept and I'll be driving my old truck while I figure out which route to go.

Interesting, I'm going to have to look into that Genesis. Thanks for the tip. I wonder if I'm missing any other similar sleepers...

The Genesis 5.0 R-spec is most certainly not quicker than the 335i.

its 48 vs 58, unless you dont want a lot of things in that BMW. You are not picking options on option screen.

And you get a lot nicer interior with lexus too.

If all you care about is to stomp on the gas pedal, then sure, 335i is better... if you care about handling, so far every media calls 335i behind the pack in handling when compared to IS350. With IS350 you get more comfy ride and better handling at the same time. It is magic that BMW used to offer before.

"Even so, here is a Korean sedan as quick to 60 mph as a BMW 550i (4.8 seconds) and faster over a quarter-mile than a Ford Mustang V-6 (13.3 seconds at 107.1 mph vs. 13.7 sec @ 102.0 mph). It demolishes the 4.6's figure-eight time by nearly 1 second (26.3 seconds at 0.68 g) and consistently stops three feet shorter from 60 mph (109 feet). It also pulls an average 0.87 g on the skidpad (up from 0.86 g)".

What proof do you have to backup your statement?

You have no idea how ungodly wonderful the Tau engine is.

That's actually a video of a BMW 335i destroying a Hyundai Genesis (the two-door coupe version).

I'm at work so I missed that. Thanks for the heads up. I'll do more research later. I don't know how fast the BMW is but we do know the R-spec does the 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds and 0-60 in 4.8.

Then why doesn't Lexus offer all that stuff and price the car $1K higher? They'll still be cheaper and have comparable option packages.

It's kinda funny when people don't watch their own videos they post lol.
