I had 5mm spacers on my 2IS atop the existing assembly and OEM lug nuts and did the trick for me. On the 3IS, I likely will get the same spacers, but if you want to go all the way short of rubbing, from pictures, looks like you can safely go 1.25" .

Cool, and they're pretty cheap so very low risk purchase. Wish I had my car but still have to wait about 8 weeks. Once you install them with the wheels on, you should get about 6.5 to 7 full turns of each nut to make a nice tight and safe fit. Please post pics when you get them - would be nice before, during, and after shots!
