What is the msrp and selling price?

In NY, do you pay all the sales tax up front or is it tacked onto your monthly payment?

Default Buying new ... How much should I aim for?

Hey Folks ... I'm looking at getting a new IS350 AWD in Virginia. I'm wondering what price I should be aiming for? The MSRP including destination is currently at $50,160. How low should I target under MSRP? I've seen posts that folks in Cali have been getting on the upwards of 15%, does that mean I should target $7,500 under MSRP?

Out of curiosity... why are you paying the taxes up front?

I am also in NY and I put only the first month payment + doc fees down. Taxes are paid each month.

Sounds like you're basically doing a cap reduction. Which is always a bad idea on a lease (or at least is of no benefit to you).

I think around the last two weeks count so they can meet their end of the month quota.

So doing some algebra it looks like the terms that you are negotiating work out like this:

MSRP: $48717
Sale Price: $44600 (guess)
Dealer Acquisition: $700
Residual: 73% (This is a guess)
Money Factor: 0.00085 (2.04% APR) (Again a guess)
Tax: 8.625% (assuming you are on Long Island... numbers change slightly if in NYC with 8.875)
Term: 27 Months
Mileage Allowance: 10k/year
Cap Reduction: $1600 (From your $2300 down. Assuming $300 for doc/DMV fees and $400 toward first month, $1600 goes toward cap reduction)

Those numbers above put you at $400/month.

Thats a decent deal. But I wouldn't put $1600 down. Take that $1600 and just put it in the bank. That changes your monthly to:
$466/month

Just pay the extra $66 out of the bank account you put the $1600 into. Trust me, it's a better idea.

Good job on guesstimating the details of this poster's deal - it is frustrating that folks post seeking comment/advice on a deal or a quote and fail to provide the necessary details that would help others offer comment/advice.

To the OP - profet offers good advice - if you have decent credit, there is no need to put down that much up front.

And to just to reiterate, I make a ton of assumptions in my post. We have no idea if you are getting a good deal until you post all the details I listed.

As an example you could live in Saratoga, NY and have a much lower sales tax and/or you could be swapping plates with an existing vehicle which would change your dmv fees. You could be using a Lexus incentive program to obtain a cap cost credit (which means you could have negotiated the sales price down further).

There are just too many variables to give you a

Can you elaborate on the plate swapping? I currently have custom plates on my car and was debating if I should keep it when I buy a new car. Would I save money by simply swapping it? How does that work?

Each state is different (deponds your state's DMV).

In NY you can transfer your registration (plates), to a new vehicle for around $60. A new registration is around $200.
