Hi lexi90,

From my research over the past month (and through reading this particular thread), I think what is considered a "good deal" all depends on the area you are buying from and the current market (supply and demand). In my area (Seattle) 5-7% off MSRP would be considered "good" for an UW/RR F-Sport IS350. An IS250 would probably be more discounted since there are more supplies around here.

In your area, you should do a quick search to see if there are many (similarly configured) IS250s. If you see that dealers have an abundant supply of them, you can probably ask to knock off a little bit more. If the supply is low in your area, then I would say 10%+ off MSRP is pretty good.

Hope that helps!

Evaluating the situation, I would say that the supply for F-Sports in CT is low. I'm sure it's much larger in NY, but that's what I've experienced in my state. That said, my discount (11% off MSRP) was pretty decent

Hard to understand how they stay in business when the vast majority of dealers offer pretty good discounts - I mean, we're not talking Ferraris here.

You're in that gray area right now - pretty good deal on the table - I'm not sure you'll get much more there in CT - and who knows how long your car's gonna be available. I would lean toward taking the deal and not look back.

Maybe you can squeeze a few accessories out of them.

Good luck - keep us posted.

An educated guess: the relative value of the Japanese yen in comparison to the US dollar (exchange rate) has declined quite a lot the past couple of years. Toyota can afford to offer greater discounts in US dollars because in terms of its home currency the yen, their margins don't get hit as much if any at all.

The point I was making was how can a dealer stay in business selling at msrp when most others offer pretty good discounts.

I agree with your comment. I assume dealerships who aren't willing to discount from MSRP are hoping customers are not aware or willing to go somewhere else, another dealership or brand.

MSRP for 2015 IS250 F-Sport AWD $45,610
Negotiated price: $41,949 + tax + fees

2nd dealer:
MSRP: 45,900
Negotiated price: none. Dealer won't sell for a penny less!

Do you guys think the 1st dealer's price is fair? I was shooting for $40,000 - $41,000.

Last Update:

Went to close deal today! To my surprise, I was able to score an even lower price ($40,000 sales price) plus dealer threw in floor mats, trunk mat, trunk cargo, wheel locks, key chains, & key gloves! Also, they gave me $8,000 for my trade which needed some paint work and new tires and that had 110,000 miles! Overall, I can't complaint

Way to go lexi - you went about the process in a methodical and patient manner and scored a pretty darn good deal.

Congrats and enjoy the fruits of your labor - good job!

FWIW,

2015 IS 350 rwd f-sport ultra white w/ black interior. premium package w/ navi
Purchase Date: 12/10/14
MSRP: 47,519
negotiated discount: 2536.84

Total Purchase: 44,982.16

after taxes/fees: 46,709.09

Price Paid for an IS250/350?-img_2030_fotor.jpg

they gave me 12k for an 08 mustang GT California special w/ 5 spd manual and 106,000 miles without even seeing it. Sent them a picture and a vin number, and worked the entire deal via email. Walked in the dealership at 5:15pm and drove out at 7:20pm! I'll never sit down with a salesman again lol.

Also from what I gathered during my search, it was hard for me to find an UW with black interior. The two local dealers combined had 4, IS 350 f-sport UW with the Rioja Red interior. Pretty sure I could've come out under 40k or close to it with one of those. I guess my neck of the woods doesn't appreciate that color combo as much. From what I was told though critics voted that Rioja Red to be the most popular choice.

Beautiful! Congrats and have fun driving that fine machine!

I suspect they allowed a little extra for your trade so your actual discount could be a bit more than what shows on paper - all in all, a pretty good deal.

I miss NC (spent 12 years or so there while stationed with the Marine Corps).
