Spent all of Saturday washing, claying, light swirl removal, and sealing up the paint. Wife need to run to Target to get a few things at 9PM as I was making a right turn i here a few quiet popping sounds. Windshield, hook, roof, and truck lid got bombed.

Had the same issue on my LX hood

Just curious if paint protection film would've saved the paint...or...if its strong enough to penetrate the paint its strong enough to penetrate the film also?

You should look into Opti-coat 2.0. After all that work on the paint, Opti-coat 2.0 would give you a tough epoxy seal against bird droppings etc. it is a little pricey but good good. I could probably get 4 IS sized cars out of a 20mm tube.
