No more puddle lights?

It is really not sure why Lexus still keeps the P168/T10 light bulb in the puddle light. Glad that the LED swap is not difficult.
For the new 3IS, the mirror housing is different than before. Now it looks like the one from the CT which the lower one-third in unpainted, matte black plastic. I hope it will make it easier to open the mirror housing.
To replace the yellow P168 with the LED, the following link may help.

To avoid scratches, I will wash the car and use some masking tapes and micro fibre in the area as I remember last time when I did that, it involves a mirror piece hanging around and I have tapes and microfiber cloth to rest the mirror safely without scratching the metal trim and the paint on the door.

I would think it is okay. As long as it is P168/T10 or equivalent bulb code, it should be fine. The only thing to watch is the clearance between the tip of the LED and the clear plastic of the puddle light. Some LED is too long to fit in the puddle light or even the light used in foot wheel which I experienced in my RX before.
But 99% it is the same bulb to be used. No incentive to change the design and it works great.

Another area good for LED mod is the trunk light. And it is very straight forward without much prying. The difference in light coverage and how much you can see inside the trunk are phenomenal. It is a worthy and practical upgrade.
