I'll have to agree that 2nd Gen GS was a breakthrough Lexus. For it's time it was modern, luxurious and had a lot of cargo and passenger room. In fact the 2nd Gen GS to me felt better than the 3rd Gen which was very stylish but lacked the feel and character the 2nd Gen had.
The 2GS I have to agree was really packaged well. To Lexus credit they have not fallen trap to making the GS bigger (I DO NOT WANT A LONGER CAR) since length has been 190" from 2-4Gen (1st gen was 194 inches long).
The Germans are moving their cars up in size to slot these new cars in. The new Audi A3/S3 is the size of an IS 300/B4 Audi. The A4 today is 185 inches long, the IS has grown too.
Maybe the next CT brings a sedan then.

new IS seems to be perfect size for its class... not too big or small anymore... enough space at the back and the trunk.
I got 2IS fully knowing that I have two small kids that can fit in the back properly. It is really 2+2 for average European or US driver.

Yup! It will probably cost $70k when you convert it to USD but who cares at least you can get it. And let's not pretend here IS300h is more desirable and makes more sense than IS350 or IS250.

didnt get if it is or isnt more desirable? For Europe, it is for sure... IS350 is a lot faster and probably smoother... but we have $8 petrol prices and cant sell used V6 at all, so it is not an option at all... its IS300h or bust.

A fully loaded Is300h f-sport costs about 90000$ in norway!
A fully loaded GS450h F-sport costs about 180000$ i norway!
The old IS-F did cost about 200000$ here. And the last IS250 did start at close to 100000$ with the 250 engine.
That is why they would never ever sell the new IS350 here. Not even the 250. The engines have way to much taxes on them, so noone would buy one because of how much it would cost. When you can get the IS300h for a lot less money, it makes no sense to buy any other enigne.
When the fuel price is over 2$ per liter or about 9$ per gallon, it would make no sence to drive anything that uses a lot of fuel.
I'm buying the new IS to get a car that uses a lot less fuel than the car I have now.

can you give a little info on how they tax engine size/type over there? those prices are insane. and $9/gallon is crazy when you realize norway's only reason for not being like greece is oil finds off its coasts.

And notice that all numbers are per unit, so it becomes insanely expensive when you ad upp all numbers. Also notice how expensive a car with much horespower becomes.
The only cars that are tax free here is electric cars. As a result Tesla has sold a lot of new cars to norway. In fact teslas biggest market is in norway.
A bit OT, but maybe intersting for some people.
We also pay roadtax, about 500$ per year. And those money does not go to build or maintain roads (!) They become a part of the anual budget for the state.
We also have to pay toll to drive to major cities, and about 25% of the toll money goes to collect the toll. Only about 75% goes to build and maintain roads. The state can also use the money to build and maintain railways (!)
Also worth mentioning, norway has the poorest road standard in europe. Behind poor countries like albania. This is becuase every road project are only funded a small amount of money per year, instead of one big loan or funding for the whole project. So everything takes a lot of time.
Norway is a small country, with about 5 million inhabitans. So most of the money the state makes comes frm the oil.
Most of the money from oil, the states saves in a fund for "future generations"
Therefor norway is really a relativly poor country compared to how much money the state makes, and they have to put a lot of tax on everything, just to survive financially. Specially car use is therefore very expensive.
The state says that if we use the oil money, norway would be in the same mess as greece and the US.
Compared to normal norwegian salary, we are still the most expensive country in europe when it comes to having a car. Normal norwegian yearly salary is about 60000$ before taxes. Taxes is about 36% of your salary, and everything you buy has 25% VAT on it.
As a result the avarage age of a norwegian car before it is scrapped is about 18 years.
The avarage age of a norwegian car is about 10,5 years. So for every new car here, there is also one that is 20 years old. A lot of old bangers in other words.
That is why we have to be a bit more picky when buying new cars here. Since we can't just go out and buy another one after a year if we are not satisfied.
Thank god for lexus and toyota, that makes relaiable cars that is cheap to maintain.

Most of the cars around here are mid sized hatchbacks and small estates. Like VW golf and passat. The Prius is also very popular. The corolla was a best seller while it was still avalible as a 5 and 3 door hatch.
Very few people drives sedans.
Use google street view somewhere in norway to see the poor road standards and car standards if you want to entertain yourself some boring day
The most fasinating road would probably be the main road between the capitol "oslo", and the big city "bergen", called E16. There are several streches of road that is to narrow for trucks and busses to meet...
