As for the hybrid, it has no spare tire. I'll have to find out more on the actual dimensions of that trunk. Having had 2 versions of the 2nd Gen IS (350 F SPORT & IS F) and seeing the 3rd Gen IS in person, the trunk looks about the same to me.
thats why I was thinking that Euro IS might not have spare tire hence difference between US and EU models, but that makes little sense as difference is not that big... i just checked GS250 in Europe and they list 530l with full size spare vs 566l with repair kit. And if we shrink 2IS 400l 25% we get 300l which is old GS450h size and yeah, its nowhere as small...

Looked through the pdf file that I linked to my reply, and I was originally thinking F-Sport, but now I'm heavily leaning towards the Lux package. Guess I'm getting old... One interesting thing I noticed is there is not any mention of the power rear sunshade, but I noticed a button for it one of the cars in the pics at the beginning of this thread. Hopefully it's just a misprint versus they decided to not include it. Yep I'm getting old if I'm that worried about a rear sunshade.

And pics look same lenght but deeper, which supports 20% more :-).

I was thinking it might be under the trunk cover - usually in Europe, manufacturers add this to the tally in Europe, but it cant be that much space plus there is spare tire there too.

edit: here we go, Lexus Europe PR:

so its 20mm longer trunk :-).
A correction was made to the US IS cargo specs today:

Cargo Volume is updated to 13.8 cu.ft using the VDA method of measurement.

Big typo about the trunk volume in the earlier release notes that were quoted and requoted by the press making the trunk size look like it had shrunken rather than growing.

this 3IS is taller, wider, and the same wheelbase as the second gen GS!

2GS: Length: 189.2 in. Width: 70.9 in. Height: 55.9 in. Wheel Base: 110.2 in.

overall length is less, which maybe explains the smaller trunk volume.

Thanks bit, that's a good sign to me as it would be nice to have a proper back seat in my next car! Also I'm partial to the 2GS so that just makes it even sweeter.

There must be some sorcery in how they made the 2GS since it is easily the roomiest GS out of the 4 generations despite being smaller than the 3rd and 4th Gen GS and it will definitely be roomier than the 3IS.

I'll have to agree that 2nd Gen GS was a breakthrough Lexus. For it's time it was modern, luxurious and had a lot of cargo and passenger room. In fact the 2nd Gen GS to me felt better than the 3rd Gen which was very stylish but lacked the feel and character the 2nd Gen had.
