ze cover, yeah, it is much nicer this way... usually they live them as rectangles and that looks bad to me.

Most of these covers have been curved for quite some time now. Mainly for glare reasons.

yeah, you are right... but screen following the design, plus metal ring, makes it look nicer than even bigger lcd screens that are not designed as well... for instance in Crown:

i like the attention to detail in 3IS, where they (over) designed everything in the car, no stone left unturned, unlike your typical Japanese car where you often think that they forgot about few things here and there.

Exactly what I am thinking!! I love the 2IS and really would love to see this digital tach/speedo retrofitted! Something similar has been done with the Honda s2000's gauge cluster with an Acura RSX, so it can definitely be done.

I assume the "outside" temp part can change to Celsius and ODO to Km?

I find it a bit awkward it the way the the outside temp and ODO display their units while the speedometer is in metric, unless they are all customizable such that they can all all be the ideal units.

I kind of wish it was a higher resolution screen. As a tech guy, the jaggies bother me on the needle. I'm also not sure if it'll end up looking kind of cheap with the backlight when driving at night... need more video.

This isn't really new for Lexus (the 2010 LS 600h had this feature first) but it's a first for the 2014 IS! Turn by turn navigation directions on the cluster:

If by 'optitron', you mean black-out gauges right?

If so, then it's a given (even earlier Toyota Corolla vehicles had black-out gauges since the last generation)
